Superman – Son of Superman | Comics

Ready to assume the mantle of his fallen counterpart, Superman faces another radical survivor of Krypton.

Prime Earth's Man of Steel gave his life away to save the world from the threat of a mentally unstable imposter Superman. The Superman who got here during “Convergence” is now living here as Clark White, who is the husband of Lois Lane and father to his boy Jon Kent.

He was also there when the incident happened and paid his respect to the fallen hero of this world. Spending a whole life-time of playing the role of the big blue boy-scout, Clark is now trying to settle in with his family in Hamilton Country, now going by as The Smiths.

While being a farm boy from Kansas, he uses his gifts only when it is necessary, whereas his young son is still learning to get his grip on his untapped raw powers, which even cost him the life of his dear cat and his next door neighbor Kathy Branden saw that happen.

Growing up to be the son of World’s greatest and most powerful hero is a lot of pressure to carry and when you are also one of the most powerful being on the planet, it adds up. As Batman and Wonder Woman comes to see Clark, Jon is caught peeping on them and his father took him to the Arctic for training him to use his powers.

Responding to a distress signal, the father-son duo then takes down a giant squid-like creature controlled by a crystal machine with teamwork and left afterwards. Jon shares with his father about the incident with his cat and Clark teaches him to be responsible for his own actions.

The remains of the machine detects Kryptonian/human hybrid DNA from the fight scene and forms a shape of the House of El symbol. Later at home, when Jon accidentally hurts himself by falling from a tree branch, Clark rushes with his boy to the Fortress of Solitude for immediatee treatment.

They enter only to find a being bearing resemblance to a rival Superman has fought long before; The Eradicator. Initially, Superman's response seeing his enemy was very violent even for a mild-mannered like him.

The ensuing brawl shook the very walls of the Fortress of Solitude and as Lois and Jon were about to hit by falling debris while seeking for cover, Eradicator actually saved them both. As Jon was diagnosed and treated for his injury, he explains that his mission is to find out lawbreaking Kryptonians hiding across the galaxy; a protocol set earlier by General Zod.

Then they were simply looking for survivors of Krypton after he witnessed the planet's destruction and then he found new traces of Kryptonian DNA on Earth only to discover that it belonged to Jon. Since his genome is tainted with Lois's human side, the entity suggests eradicating that half of the boy will suffice for purification.

While attempting of doing that, Krypto jumped in the middle and got swallowed by the being, enraging the Man of Steel once again for the sacrifice made by his hound of steel.

Superman – Son of Superman

Following “The Final Days of Superman” storyline from The New 52 continuity and the ground-breaking start of a new era of adventure with DC Rebirth, the world was missing a Man of Steel!

We were all in luck because comic-book writer Patrick Gleason (Batman and Robin – New 52, Sinestro Corps War) and Peter J. Tomasi (Black Adam – The Dark Age, Superman/Wonder Woman) brought us back the original Big-Blue boy scout from Post-Crisis era that we all used to know and love, the one from a time before “Flashpoint” crossover event changing mainstream DC Universe entirely.

The storytellers were aided by artists Doug Mahnke (Final Crisis, Justice League Elite), Mick Gray, Jaime Mendoza, Jorge Jimenez and Patrick Gleason himself lined up themselves to portray the story to us that also introduced us to the “Son of Superman”, which also happens to be the title of the story that features Superman: Rebirth issue #1 as well as issues #1-6 from the fourth ongoing monthly volume of Superman.

Although Jon Kent has not established himself as a super-hero just yet and still operates under his father's supervision, this arc explores his capacity to outshine his father.

Superman – Savage Dawn

superman new 52
The Immortal Combat
The previous Superman storylines have explored the idea of a new Strange Visitor; Ulysses, (The Men of TomorrowSuperman discovering new Solar Flare power and a mysterious enemy HORDR Root knowing his secret identity  was all a build-up to the bigger picture. In “Savage Dawn”, it is finally revealed that all the dots of the plots prior to this connect here and it doesn’t get better than this. Writer Greg Pak (Batman/Superman, World War Hulk), Gene Luen Yang (New Super-Man, Superman – Before Truth) and Peter Tomasi (Black Adam – The Dark Age, Superman/Wonder Woman) made it large with their envisioned plotting skills, while Aaron Kuder (The Amory Wars, Key of Z) also included himself among their league. Artist Ardian Syaf (Brightest Day, Flashpoint – Emperor Aquaman), Dan Jurgens (Death of Superman, Superman/Doomsday – Hunter/Prey) Doug Mahnke (Final Crisis, Justice League Elite) and Howard Porter (JLA, The Flash) did not only took care of the interiors but also provided cover arts. Ed Benes (Birds of Prey, WildC.A.T.S.) and John Romita, Jr. (Amazing Spider-Man, Kick-Ass) also made their presence known quite dominantly by delivering some of the jaw-dropping covers for the issues involved. Savage Dawn eventually leads to The Final Days of Superman; a prelude to DC Rebirth.

Hunt for Pandora's Box

Since the "Flashpoint" changed the entire DC Universe like never before, the world's greatest heroes found themselves in Prime Earth. When the Justice League prevented an invasion of Apokolips and battled Darkseid (Justice League – Origin), the barriers of dimensions are weakened and using that lead, the story progresses towards a very interesting turn. This very arc will lead path for another big-one titled "Forever Evil" up next, which will sow seeds for one of the biggest event from the monthly Justice League series of The New 52 titled "Darkseid War".
