Fantastic Four – Unthinkable | Comics

To exact vengeance against Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom does the unthinkable!

Before he crossed paths with genius inventor Reed Richards, before he had his face violently disfigured by an unfortunate accident at State University in New York or before engaging in years of endless fighting with the popular adventurer team known as Fantastic Four by becoming Doctor Doom, Victor Von Doom was a very different man.

Long before he became the tyrant ruler of Latveria, he fell in love with a beautiful young girl named Valeria from the same Romani camp. These two love-birds were having their good days together with heartfelt affection and genuine concern for each other.

She was the only support left for Victor when he lost his parents at an early stage of life and became an orphan. Victor then studied both science and dark sorcery to open gateways to another realm in hopes to free his parents. He eventually became a great inventor and got a chance of scholarship in America through his growing reputation.

When his lover made him chose between her and the newfound opportunity, Victor chose this golden opportunity over Valeria for the pursuit of knowledge that would bring him power. Years after, he is searching for the love of his life again in places with no results even though having accomplishments in the field of science or being a billionaire.

Except for Valeria being in his life, he finds it all meaningless after all these years but ever since this couple parted ways before he came to America, they never contacted to each other and Victor doesn't even have the slightest idea of her current whereabouts. So he is currently seeking help from fortune tellers and gypsies everywhere to find her out.

Because, this time he is willing to give up everything he ever achieved, only to have her back in his life and he eventually does find her the first time he came looking for her, pointed out by another fortune teller he came across lately. As she was already waiting for him, Victor approaches an elderly Valeria, asking her to change his life forever.

The day of the lives of Fantastic Four was going just like any other normal one with their regular family misadventures. The Thing asks Johnny Storm to borrow some cash as he is the new Chief Financial Officer of Fantastic Four, Inc. When he stood Ben up for too many times, he decides to play prank on Johnny by hitting him up with a massive water balloon.

Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman went on a tour to a dimension filled with trinary code speaking aliens, looking for photonuclear crystals to fuel his tech for a foreseeable future. Franklin and his sister Valeria were in care of Crystal and Medusa of The Inhumans at New Attilan, Blue Area of the Moon, while their parents were away.

Upon returning, Reed and Sue bring them back through a portal and Susan takes Val to feed her. Reed goes to lab with Franklin to find out an entirely soaked Johnny looking for something to hurt Ben. Knowing it was probably Human Torch who angered Ben in the first place; Reed offers a non-lethal suggestion and tells them to meet him after suiting up.

Susan was talking to Ben in kitchen about how she is worried about a normal future for her daughter. As Val was playing with blocks, Ben tries for her to say his name but unseen to them all, Doctor Doom showed up to her, claiming her to be his goddaughter.

He compels her to say the word "Doom" and when she does, chaos breaks out at lab in form of a weird green energy beam almost immediately. Johnny couldn't stop it with his flames and Mr. Fantastic was forced to quickly transport Franklin to New Attilan for safety but the boy accidentally ended up being dragged out by netherdemons into Hell.

Defense system went down pretty fast and Johnny jumps in to save his nephew, only to get badly burnt by hellfire. When Ben mentioned of what Val said earlier, Reed watches into her eye and through it, Victor assures him to meet very soon. The world's greatest family then head over to Latveria for an unthinkable confrontation of their lives.

Fantastic Four – Unthinkable

A four issue plot with a prologue story on Victor Von Doom from the pages of Fantastic Four, "Unthinkable" is further exploring untold origin of Doom's back-story. The story kick starts from issue #67 of third volume of titular monthly ongoing comic-book series and ended up on issue #500 of original count, which came after 70th issue of this volume.

Veteran comic-book writer Mark Waid (Onslaught Saga, Original Sin) and artist Mike Wieringo (Fantastic Four – Disassembled, Fantastic Four – Rising Storm) tied this story up in 2004 that would have after effects on the heroes in the long run of their lives.

An Unthinkable Doom

This one is quite a different story-arc for the family as their arch-nemesis now relies on mystical powers beyond their understanding. Yet question remains, why Victor is looking for Valeria after all these years? What cryptic connection does it has with the Fantastic Four? What unthinkable deed he is going to do when he finds out his lost love?

A brief glimpse on New Attilan as well as other known Marvel Comics characters like Crystal, Lockjaw and Medusa making a cameo was very enjoyable. Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange appears in a guest-role as well as beings from Dark Dimension. Though the good doctor didn't hang out for long, he did provide Reed a way to salvation.

Onslaught Saga | Comics

Professor Charles Xavier and his team of X-Men have previously faced Magneto in his space station Avalon to stop his reign of terror (Fatal Attraction) and during the battle against the master of magnetism and his Acolytes, Magneto extracted the Adamantium from Wolverine's body after being stabbed by him, which left the latter in a withered and dying state. Seeing this, an enraged Xavier immediately attacks Magneto and wiped out his mind, left him in a catatonic state.

Unknowingly, Charles also absorbed the dark essence of Magneto's mind while attacking him, which subconsciously merged with Xavier's consciousness and creates a very powerful psionic entity called Onslaught. Xavier's decades of frustration over the events with mutants made Onslaught take an attempt to forcibly establish his year-old dream of mutant/human peaceful co-existence.

Onslaught Saga | Comics

At first, Onslaught wanted to establish Xavier's dreams through the means that Magneto used. However, he later decided to destroy all humans too anyway. He approached X-Men's former nemesis, Juggernaut but upon denial, he tore out the crimson Gem of Cyttorak from Cain Marko and left him beaten. Then Jean Grey was approached by the being to join his cause but she refused the offer too.

Onslaught also tried to recruit Xavier's X-Men to fight against humans but upon denial, he attacked them all and both parties engaged in a fight. It was when Wolverine noted that he looked more like Magneto after Onslaught pretends to be Xavier himself, the monster loose his cool and attacked the team. Onslaught now reveals his true form to the X-Men and claims that he and Xavier are one.

During their fight, Bishop absorbs a huge blast of psionic energy thrown at the X-Men from Onslaught to save his friends, while Cannonball, Cyclops, Gambit, Iceman, Phoenix, Storm and Wolverine continues the fight. Onslaught then abducts the powerful mutant child Franklin Richards of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman by posing as a little boy named Charles. Cable's time-displaced brother Nate Grey AKA X-Man was also taken down to have more psionic power from him for himself.

Amidst this chaos, Ozymandias awakens his master Apocalypse who joins Uatu the Watcher in witnessing the end of the "Age of Wonders". The team of Fantastic Four, Avengers, an enraged Hulk and even the villainous Doctor Doom came forward to oppose Onslaught's threat to existence. Together, The Avengers and X-Men formed an alliance against the greatest threat which the world has ever seen but probably all of them will not be able to see the end of it.

"Onslaught Saga" is a major comic-book crossover event that took place in 1996, published by Marvel Comics and this event was centered on a psionic being of pure evil of the same name. The character, Onslaught was co-created by writer Scott Lobdell (Alpha Flight, Generation X) and Mark Waid (Captain America – Sentinel of Liberty, Deadpool – Sins of the Past), along with artist Andy Kubert (Damian – Son of Batman, Dark Knight III – The Master Race).

To Survive an Onslaught

Various other writers and artists have contributed in this historical Marvel event. Among them, Mark Waid's plot was something that actually stayed faithful to the core event that nearly shattered the entire Marvel universe. The drawings of Andy Kubert in the second ongoing volume of X-Men and Joe Madureira (Avenging Spider-Man – My Friends Can Beat Up Your Friends, Deadpool – The Circle Chase)'s work in Uncanny X-Men are most magnificent.

Age of Apocalypse | Comics

The eternal evil mutant En Sabah Nur AKA Apocalypse has always been watching over the world to conquer it when the time to strike is right and as he observes this unexpected incident, he deems it as a perfect moment to start his agenda of ruling the world by conquering it all. Alongside his wife Rogue, Magneto assembles the team of Astonishing X-Men, his rebellion mutant army against the tyrant's genocidal campaign "culling", where many were slain.

Instead of all the effort, Apocalypse has conquered entire North America and hunted down all mutants with potent telepathic or chronal abilities, as well as other super-heroes to assure the durability of his evil reign. It's a timeline that is full of chaos, abnormalities and madness all over it, as it is ruled by the one who is the malevolent mutant Apocalypse himself.

While Nightcrawler was leding the X-Calibre team to locate Destiny, he came across Callisto, Juggernaut, his mother Mystique and Thunderbird of this reality. To retrieve a piece of M'Kraan Crystal that controls over time and dimensions, Gambit and the X-Ternals travels to space. Colossus and Shadowcat are a married couple who trains a group of young mutants from the original Generation X, who call themselves Generation Next.

Blink, Morph, Sabretooth, Sunfire and Wild Child fought Apocalypse's son Holocaust under Magneto's command to stop the "cullings". Logan carries out his own missions as Weapon X, along with his lover Jean Grey for the Human High Council. Allegedly born from Cyclops' and Jean Grey's DNA, a new and powerful mutant Nate Gray AKA X-Man makes his presence known as the world's most powerful telekinetic.

With the greatest superheroes that DC Comics has to offer, the Justice League was a popular roster of heroic figures having many limited series on their name. However, those limited installments being performing below expectations, DC Comics launched a new monthly ongoing series titled “JLA” featuring all the major characters of the team in 1997. Apart from having some ground-breaking storytellers for the series, artist Howard Porter (Underworld Unleashed, Trials of Shazam) and Doug Mahnke (Black Adam – The Dark Age, Final Crisis) was also assigned to give life to those pages.

Following the 100th issue of JLA monthly series, a mini-series titled “Justice League Elite” was launched with a complete different landscape and a new roster of heroes. Following the "Flashpoint" event, Justice League gets a rebooted "Origin" for The New 52 timeline. The team is adapted to two major animated series Justice League (2001) and Justice League Unlimited (2004) for TV and in 2017, the first ever live-action Justice League movie is about to release worldwide.
