Justice League – Darkseid War | Comics

For eons, Metron has been an observer of events of the universe, destruction and rebirth of worlds while sitting in his Mobius Chair. Though he is never to interfere, he did it in past to prevent a great destruction to all in existence when Apokolips and New Genesis went on waging war against each other and arranged a pact between Darkseid and Highfather. They are to exchange their sons Orion and Scott Free respectively to each other, which will at least stop Izaya from going in war against Uxas and his planet.

He was a witness of that time when an otherworldly being known as Anti-Monitor caused a Crisis on Infinite Earths, then living fear entity Parallax ushered a Zero Hour in time, Infinite Crisis rattled the Multiverse and Zoom created Flashpoint paradox afterwards. When the dusts are cleared out and a new era begins, Prime Earth was threatened by Apokolips War and with all those crisis events over existence put reality into peril. He seeks and finds out Anti-Monitor on the ruins of Earth 3, preparing to consume another world and the observer tells him to stop, because another crisis can destroy reality as we know it.

By destroying Earth 3, the latter made a rift in Multiverse and exposing it to a Convergence of timelines. Seeing his reluctance in ceasing from his advance towards Earth, Metron reminds the destroyer that his actions may lead to Darkseid's wrath but it seems that the Anti-God actually wants a war with Dark God of Apokolips. As he states, only the demise of Uxas can unlock the key to change him back to who he once were, which the observer cannot provide him and in this war, he has a secret ally against the lord of Apokolips.

Highfather's own son Scott Free grew up in the fiery pits to become Mister Miracle by surviving the worst and escaping his captivity. Darkseid has never been thwarted back before from any of the worlds he invaded until he stepped on Earth and fought the Justice League. Sensing he has gotten some new source of power and preparing to attack once again, Scott decides to confront him. They confronted each other in throne room but he was forced to evade via Boom-Tube and ended up finding the mother of Uxas' daughter.

Meanwhile, assassin Kanto and Lashina goes to Earth looking for a woman named Myrina Black and their opening of a Boom-Tube alerted Cyborg, who brought Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Power Ring, Shazam and Wonder Woman to the scene to find a woman lying dead in her apartment as Steve Trevor arranged to clear out the area for investigation. Victor dotted the lines to figure out that these assailants are after some Myrina Black and Hal points out that whoever they are, they can cloak from his power ring.

Using Barry Allen as a dimensional portal, a gray-skinned woman suddenly arrives and headed towards the Caped Crusader as he is the most dangerous among his peers. Incapacitating him first, she then takes down Cyborg and Shazam before being stopped by Diana. She reveals herself to be of Amazon blood and holds herself pretty well against Wonder Woman. Hal Jordan and Jessica Cruz quickly came to join the fight but she corrupts Hal's ring before using Jessica's one to bring the destroyer on Earth.

Superman was with Lex Luthor at LexCorp and as they are informed about the attack on their teammates, Lena Luthor shot her brother and left them both stranded on Apokolips using a Mother Box. Rest of the Justice League made a failed attempt to stop the woman named Grail and Anti-Monitor. Steppenwolf pledges to his master to allow him face the Kryptonian but he is ordered to ready their army to transport to Earth instead. What would happen when Anti-God and Dark God finally goes toe to toe against each other?

Exploring the aftermath of Injustice League and Forever Heroes storylines, while crossover events like Convergence and Forever Evil paves a new way for upcoming arcs, "Darkseid War" is a groundbreaking step stone for many of the future tales and a new status-quo of The New 52. Originally, the core plot of Darkseid War took place on issue #40-52 from the second monthly ongoing Justice League series from DC Comics and couple of other tie-in issues was added afterwards. Reference from "Justice League – Origin" was made and the story itself would influence "The Final Days of Superman" and beyond.

Twilight of the Gods!

Though writer Geoff Johns (Blackest Night, Brightest Day) and artist Jason Fabok (Detective Comics – Emperor Penguin, Detective Comics – The Wrath) was primarily responsible for creating this event from DC Comics, artists Kevin Maguire, Phil Jimenez, Dan Jurgens (Metamorpho – Year One, Superman/Doomsday – Hunter/Prey), Jerry Ordway, Scott Kolins (Legion of Superheroes, Superman/Batman) and veteran fan-favorite Jim Lee (Divine Right, Superman Unchained) also took part as guest-pencillers. By far, this one is one of the most expanded story arcs from post-Flashpoint era other than any major crossover events considering the number of issues involved.

As the modern Trinity of DC Comics creative panel; writer Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese, Savage Dawn) and celebrated artists John Romita, Jr. (Kick-Ass, World War Hulk) and Klaus Janson (The Dark Knight Returns) have band together to bring something new to the Man of Steel legacy that would create some definite impact. “Before Truth” is a story that leads to another major revelation involving some very important cast of the DC Universe. Aside from the idea of a “powerless” Superman, the revealing of his secret identity is also explored. The cameo appearance of Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, Flash and Wonder Woman as well as an ensemble cast of villains like Royal Flush Gang, Livewire, Killer Croc, Shockwave, Killer Frost and Titano was a bonus fun-part for the fans.

Deathstroke – Suicide Run | Comics

Harley Quinn lures Deathstroke to Belle Reve and mae him fight the Suicide Squad, Lex Luthor's army of Bizarros to Red Hood.

Slade Wilson was tasked to kill a rogue Titan, Lapetus and gave up his eye as a part of a blood-sacrifice for his action (God Killer). He was training on Danger Island afterwards when his host Victor Ruiz brings him the news about his estranged daughter Rose Wilson, who is gunned down at her home before he could even react to it.

A furious Deathstroke immediately rushes to the spot only to find out it was another girl at his daughter's place with a message on her body that led Slade to believe it a handiwork of Joker's lunatic girlfriend; Harley Quinn, who previously made a deal with him for killing her "Boss" Amanda Waller; director of Suicide Squad.

So, arming himself up to infiltrate Belle Reve, Slade drops an EMP charge over the facility that severed all communications and unlocked all inmates. As guards were trying their best to keep the deranged inmates into their cells, he quietly drops inside.

While Task Force X member Captain Boomerang, Parasite and many other were taking out the guards; Harley Quinn was trying to make an escape out of this loony bin. Deathstroke grabs her from behind, asking about playing decoy with his daughter and got surrounded by other inmates, whom these two easily beat down to submission.

Then another assassin Deadshot showed up there with a vendetta from their previous encounter on Russia (Pure Insanity). Their fight is briefly stalled when Slade explains his reason to be here is to find Rose but Harley tries to re-engage them to save herself.

They are soon interrupted as Deathstroke is quickly pulled to the aquatic block by Black Manta, who also wants to get back at him. Apparently, Manta too has a grudge over him regarding the last time they ran into each other and takes him down under.

At Waller's office, reptilian villain Snakebite shows up during the breakout and he cornered her after quickly killing off her bodyguards. All situations came under control when Internal Forces came to rescue shortly and have Manta diving back to water while Slade heads straight to Waller's office with Harley to finish his work.

There they find out corpse of her security personnel and presumed that she is dead already, whereas Snakebite is actually keeping the director hostage within Belle Reve compound. With a timely assist from Catwoman, they two fights their way out of armed guards.

More convicts approaches there seeing a chance to exact their vengeance on Waller and these three takes them all down before finally meeting the psycho snake man, with whom Deathstroke had a brief tussle with. Snakebite engages in a fight with Slade who ended up being poisoned by his venomous opponent but forcing him to flee.

Slade chases another lead for Rose at LexCorp that involves him standing against Mercy Graves, a Lex Luthor Robot and an army of Bizarros. Then he gets into a showdown with Red Hood, which led him to a man from his past trying to ruin him.

Deathstroke – Suicide Run

Running on third ongoing volume, "Suicide Run" is the third story arc from Deathstroke monthly series, collecting issues #11-16. A part of The New 52 timeline, the story is plotted by writer James Bonny and Tony Daniel (Batman, Teen Titans), while arts were done by penciller Tyler Kirkham (The Darkness, Tomb Raider) back in 2015 for DC Comics.

Special guest appearance of Catwoman and Red Hood was truly a refreshing experience altogether even though it only mattered momentarily when they showed up as well as an antagonist from Slade's past, who wants to see him dead after tormenting him enough.

A pattern is formed from the very first arc of this series; "Gods of War" and then it subtly continued throughout the entire time as other development progressed along and Deathstroke eventually went toe to toe with members of the infamous Suicide Squad at one point, with whom he shares not so pleasant history after all.

Minor hints toward other ongoing stories of DC Universe such as "Robin – Son of Batman – Year of Blood" and previous issues from "God Killer" storyline were given in plot details as reference. Both the series and Slade's chronicles will be concluded within the next arc titled "Family Business" where all stakes will go sky high for him.
