Deadpool – Secret Invasion | Comics

The Skrull Invasion has thrown the entire superhero community off-balance but for Deadpool, it's just Monday!

The shape-shifting alien race of Skrulls have started taking over Earth under everyone's nose by posing as government officials, military, Mutants and even infiltrating the ranks of major known super-heroes everywhere. To establish a new world order in their image, they are attacking on various places with their armada ships to take over.

A Skrull ship from invading force showed up over a baseball stadium while a game was on progress. While they were explaining their agenda to audience, their scan detects a non-human life form in the field which interests them slightly. Commander Ak'strk of the warship notices a game mascot and is appeared to be heavily armed.

After immediately gunning the poor mascot down from the armada ship, they sent a small unit of Skrulls to take a closer look at it for examination. What they thought as a costume is actually body armor and see the dome above them closing. From inside the mascot, Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool reveals himself to his baffled audience.

Since they haven't marked him as a significant threat, none of them initially recognized the Merc with a Mouth. While the Skrulls try to figure out who he is, DP was kicking butt and cutting them to pieces before he cleared the civilians out of the field. The warship fired again to take him down and another unit was sent believing he is neutralized.

However, the ground troop find the mascot body armor empty and deploys Super-Skrull as Dee Pee was on top of their ship, blowing it up with explosives he brought. Wade came crushing up from the roof, holding their General of the armada at gunpoint but almost immediately surrenders himself to them, expressing his wish to join their ranks.

Apparently, Wade was trying to make an impression by showing off but not buying it, Super-Skrull came at him. Though initially skeptical on his claims about wanting to side with them, they do recruit him considering his past of being a fine assassin created by Weapon X and possessing the accelerated healing factor in his genes to use it for their own need.

So, their sci-ops division took Wade in and they ran all sorts of experiment on him and his unique DNA is put into the mix to the genesis matrix of the new batch of Super-Skrulls. As the next-gen of soldiers is born, they took out the whole squadron of previous super-soldiers during exercise session with ease using their newfound madness.

DP intends to train the new squad so that they could stand against heroes like Black Panther, Cyclops and Iron Man but ended up leading them against each other. Soon, it appears that what Deadpool claimed at first place is not entirely true to the word and someone else is backing him up here on a deep-cover mission as well.

Upon dealing with the alien shape-shifters, DP was about to hit a major payday but he screwed up parts of the deal and got no money in the end. After sitting ducks for months, Wade is broke now and turned to his old pal Colonel Zeke for some work.

He asks Wilson to go to Eastern Europe for bringing back his former-supermodel wife and kill a plastic surgeon named Dr. Druek Lovosno who has turned her into a flesh-eating zombie for a million bucks. From the start, it looks like a botched up job and Wade smells of double-crossing right from the moment he stepped into it.

Deadpool Vol 01 – Secret Invasion (Softcover)

Deadpool Vol 01 – Secret Invasion (Hardcover)

With the major crossover event, "Secret Invasion" on progress, this three part story is a tie-in plot devised by writer Daniel Way (Bullseye – Greatest Hits, Ghost Rider – Vicious Cycle) and artist Paco Medina (Legendary Star-Lord – Face It, I Rule, Venom – Run). The creative team is back again with an anti-hero of Marvel Comics, Deadpool.

Collecting first five issues of the second monthly ongoing series of the controversial character, we are advanced towards another major crossover event "Dark Reign". Unlike his previous work, Medina toned down his drawings to a less bulky structures and it looks as good as the story with a traditional quirky tale of the merc.

One of The Skrulls

Following the events of "Wolverine – Origins – Deadpool", Wade Wilson went after the Skrulls as he miserably failed to do a job involving Wolverine and his son Daken. When the Skrulls attack on a baseball stadium during their worldwide invasion, Deadpool shows up to take them all out by himself as part of a new assignment.

If not an insane person, who else would dare to call an enraged Super-Skrull "Chilly McHotpants" to get on his nerves and then try to take him on in a close combat? Special guest appearance from Nick Fury and Norman Osborn would have major impact for the build of plot towards upcoming tie-in story "Deadpool – Dark Reign".

X-23 | Comics

Unlike any children, she was born as a clone in an attempt of a top-secret facility to re-create Weapon X program that gave birth to Wolverine. Doctor Sarah Kinney proposed for a female clone when the other twenty two died in the Adamantium bonding process and then act as her surrogate mother to preserve even a small fraction of humanity in her but all her efforts go in vein by the intervention of Doctor Zander Rice.

He set up Kinney to be killed by X-23 with a "trigger scent" and in her dying breath she named the clone “Laura”. She became a weapon, killed many folks, escaped The Facility and then goes to seek out Wolverine. Then Captain America and Matt Murdock comes to take her in but eventually sets her free to avoid S.H.I.E.L.D.'s exploitation of her.

She ended up on streets living as a prostitute but then welcomed by the X-Men in Xavier Institute. When New X-Men was formed, she joined the team with Elixr, Hellion, Mercury, Prodigy, Rockslide and Surge. She teamed-up with Spider-Man, became Captain Universe for a while, helped destroy cyborg Nimrod, bested her handler Kimura several times, defeated Lady Deathstrike during Messiah CompleX.

Then she enrolled to the X-Force team, fought the Hulk, made an uneasy alliance with Daken against Mr. Sinister, aided the Future Foundation and finally became a part of Avengers Academy. She also formed the “Circle of Four” with Ghost Rider, Red Hulk and Venom against Blackheart. Following the “Death of Wolverine” she took the mantle of her mentor to honor his memory.

Originally created by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost for a TV series, prior to her debut in comics in 2004, X-23 is a fictional Marvel Comics character who is a clone of another popular protagonist; Wolverine. X-23 was a part of many X-Men based crossover and stories like Innocence Lost, Target X, The Killing Dream, NYX, Decimation, Mercury Falling, World War HulkQuest for Magik, League of Losers, Messiah War and Second Coming.

Her Father's Legacy

She was one of the Wolverines just like Daken, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique and Sabretooth. Although she is a clone of Wolverine, it is shown in the 2005 limited series X-Men – Age of Apocalypse while further exploring the alternate reality of Age of Apocalypse that she is actually the daughter of Wolverine and Jean Grey of that timeline.

Aside from her many notable comic-book appearance, X-23 also appeared on two animated series X-Men – Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men on TV. The character would also appear in the upcoming 2017 film Logan in her very first live-action appearance, portrayed by Dafne Keen. But since her role is only titled “Laura” and not “X-23”, it is still unclear what part she will end up playing.

Venom – Run | Comics

Venom escapes from the arctic research facility and moved to the U.S. Radar Station called "Christmastown" (Venom – Shiver). Actually this one is derived from the original alien symbiote that gave birth to it and later has regenerated into a clone with full form. He is now being followed by a mysterious being called The Suit, whose agenda is not clear yet.

However, this self-regenerating sentient being took Lieutenant Patricia Robertson, the only survivor of Venom’s mayhem on arctic along with him to seek and destroy the menace for good before it reaches the civilization. Hungrier than ever and also aware of The Suit persuading him, the symbiote is out to feed on its prey which it seeks in Canada. Inside the wilderness, the symbiote clone made a mess of wild animals and left some trail after escaping the scene by attaching itself to a crow.

After leaving his trail of rampage all over the places he had been through, he goes to the Northwest Territories of Voici with more unanticipated forces behind his tail. Venom reaches Nan's cookhouse with a temporary host and as soon as he got inside the clone attempted to feed on the people there.

Two armed female operative named Frankie and Victoria shows up to handle the situation. They visit Bob's Bar at the town and right at that instance, the world’s most dangerous mutant there is, the walking switch-blade, Wolverine were present there. When these two tracks the clone and eventually got attacked by Venom, Logan steps in. Even though, the Venom clone had not come here looking for Logan, these two soon engages in an intensely ferocious battle for control which only one of them might survive.

Wolverine realizes that the Venom he is facing is clearly not Eddie Brock but something else. The more he resists to get the clone near him, the more it gets mad. The Suit buds in to the brawl out of nowhere to make it more interesting. Frankie and Vic returns to the fight and soon, is forced to flee.

Venom – Run

Published from Marvel Comics in 2004, “Venom – Run” is a six part storyline told in the Venom monthly ongoing series. Writer Daniel Way (Deadpool, Ghost Rider) and artist Paco Medina (New X-Men, Nova) cooked up this plot with a great pace all along. Daniel Way sums up the whole storyline based on the previous one that was about a new Venom symbiote clone that terrorized the Arctic Circle with his genocidal spree, which will later lead us to other stories featuring the alien symbiote.

Bloodthirsty Homicidal Maniacs

Plus, a great berserker action by the feral X-Man Wolverine is the cherry on the cake. Though Medina's take on Wolverine made the character a little bulkier, but how he draws the manga styled Wolverine was the main pleasure point and the rest of the drawings were just fine. This monthly ongoing Venom series is in a process to build up a large plot in the background that will hopefully lead up to some grand conclusion.
