Death of Wolverine | Comics

The man known as Wolverine isn't quite living up to the reputation he has made over years because he now lacks his incredible healing factor and can die. Logan goes to see Mr. Fantastic to know in details about his current condition. As Reed Richards laid it out for him, he cannot heal from any injuries he takes in this state, probably his bones are radioactive now and he should not use his claws anymore. Upon discussing with Hank McCoy and Tony Stark, he can find a solution but he needs some time to figure it out while Wolverine have to stay out of action for a while.

Logan knows that is not possible because, somehow news are going to spread about his vulnerability and he has a huge list of enemies who would come after him. He enters Eric's pub for a drink and left a map for anyone who comes looking for him. Former super-soldier turned mercenary Nuke showed up looking for him and thus he brought them all over to Logan's very own territory of British Columbia, Canada. Before they can even confront, Wolverine took out all his men for him to show up alone in the shore to see countless dead bodies of A.I.M. agents, unknown Ninja assassins and rogue mercenaries lying there.

Initially taking a few beating, Logan got the drop on him and then tortured to submission by repeatedly bashing Nuke's face with his Adamantium skull. He reveals that the bounty is only good if Logan is alive and the person who put a contract on him is none other than Viper. As he spared life of Frank Simpson, Wolverine goes to Madripoor to see her and even manages a meeting. There he found out that Sabretooth has become a pet dog to her and is weakened because of her poisoning.

Viper informs Logan that she did not put out a contract for him. In fact, she sub-contracted it for someone else to do it for her. She offers to tell him who the real contractor is if he can beat Sabretooth in fight but since he is not in his prime, Logan lost an eye and is viciously wounded. It was the timely intervention of Lady Deathstrike that saved him but he requests her to spare Victor Creed as he is drugged. Viper flew and Deathstrike tell him that all individuals with Adamantium implants are being attacked by Lord Ogun.

When talking, Yuriko notices that Logan isn't healing, so she decides to exchange his life for hers but as she was about to proceed, Kitty Pryde arrives to save the day. Kitty phased through her body, warning her about hurting Logan. After sending Yuriko away, she saves her fainted friend with Regen Serum. Since they both have past histories with Ogun, they travelled to Japan to find him. Ogun's spirit possessed Kitty Pryde by then but he ultimately retreats from two of them, leaving the name "Abraham Cornelius" within her mind.

Right after Logan's demise, the story actually starts to unfold as many friends came forward to mourn his loss. Done Living Forever

A heartbroken Storm took the leadership of X-Men while his adopted daughter/clone Laura Kinney AKA X-23 forms a team called "Wolverines" with Daken, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique and Sabretooth to honor his memory. Despite a very bold move like killing one of their prominent characters, Marvel sure would find a replacement for him or make someone else take his mantle as he is gone now. Although not exactly in a same manner, "Death of Wolverine" was a source of inspiration for 2017's superhero film Logan with actor Hugh Jackman starring in titular role and have a different ending from the story.

Old Man Logan | Comics
Long before everything gone under the rule of super-villains, Logan was a mutant with animalistic nature and a healing factor that made him into a Weapon X operative Wolverine and eventually an X-Man. He was leading his life in adventure with the X-Men, until the villain uprising when Mysterio tricked him into killing all of his fellow teammates and afterwards, his grief made him abandon his heroics.

In his exile, he met Maureen and settled down with their two kids in Hulkland. Then he went on a road trip with Hawkeye as a hired guide, killed Red Skull and came back too late to pay his rent money. As the Hulk gang got bored and murdered his family, he unsheathed his claws again for revenge and wiped out the entire Banner-Family with ruthless efficiency.

The incursions of worlds have destroyed the Multiverse (Time Runs Out) and he found himself on God Doom's Battleworld. He ended up in Deadlands, where he found She-Hulk among the undead and convinced her to help him get out. Awoken in a new world, Logan was unaware of the fact that his counterpart of this world is long-dead, yet he decided to kill the ones who doomed his reality.

So, he faced Totally Awesome Hulk but backed out upon learning it was not Banner himself. In search of Hawkeye, he found Kate Bishop, leading him to a meet Captain America. Logan was found by Storm; the current leader of X-Men and is enrolled into the team after a time-displaced Jean Grey convinced him to (X-Haven). He also fought in Civil War II and the Inhumans/X-Men War.

Back for Redemption

Following "Death of Wolverine", Marvel was in a crisis for Wolverine in their publication and they made X-23 take the mantle. However, there was still a void and so; they used the events of "Secret Wars" to bring the version of the hero who was also having a live-action movie released in 2017 titled "Logan". Although, this version of Wolverine is considerably slow and weak, he still is the best there is at what he does.

It is the first part to the two later parts of the "Messiah War" and "Second Coming" crossover.
