Siege – New Avengers (Softcover)

Siege – New Avengers (Hardcover)

Completing an impressive 64 issue run that started back in 2005, writer Brian Michael Bendis (New Avengers – Breakout, New Avengers – Sentry) wraps up first monthly ongoing comic-book series of New Avengers for Marvel Comics in 2010 with "Siege – New Avengers" tit-in storyline, which continued from his previous arc "Powerloss".

Bendis was assisted by artists Bryan Hitch (Age of Ultron, The Ultimates), Marko Djurdjevic, Mike Mayhew, Mike McKone and Stuart Immonen (All-New Captain America – Hydra Ascendant, Ultimate Fantastic Four – Doom) on the story. Immonen worked on cover arts for all four numbered issues involved from regular series run.

"Dark Reign" has been unusual for all heroes to deal with a maniac like Norman Osborn being in charge of everything but he ultimately screws up publicly during "Siege" crossover event, giving Cap and his friends enough reason to strike back at him.

Though Steve Rogers is back in action, his old pal James Bucky Barnes still remains Captain America. It is not shown what really happened of The Sentry when he went full rogue and became a massive threat for everyone after losing total control but a happy conclusion was drawn for all members of New Avengers in finale issue.

New Avengers – Powerloss | Comics

Distrust among The Hood and his gang spreads after his recent fall but they seek out a new leader to defeat New Avengers.

Trying to set a trap for Norman Osborn and his "Dark Avengers", members of New Avengers have found themselves ambushed by The Hood and his gang of criminals. Despite being outnumbered and their power dampener being trashed, they managed to get out alive and it caused a friction among Hood's gang regarding his leadership skills.

When Madame Masque was trying to point out their lack of discipline and short-sightedness, Wrecker corrected her by saying that they are all in for a "gig". He also raised question about how Hood knew that Avengers were here even though it seemed that they were clearly expecting someone else, which creates a rift between them.

Parker Robbins and Wrecker go back and forth about how they both were doing fine than the other. As they all leave, Chemistro found the wrecked power disruptor left behind and took it to Dr. Jonas Harrow. Later at their secret hideout, Hood didn't show up for a payday but then Harrow presents his device and plan to them all.

Bucky Barnes returns to his place to find it as a mess but never got to raise it during their meeting where Clint Barton suggests that they straight out kill Osborn. Spider-Man strongly opposes this idea, which is against his own values as well as Avengers' but Luke Cage proposes that they at least have a discussion about the situation.

Argument between Clint and Spidey started to get heated on Osborn and then Bucky gets a message for an emergency at Times Square. They see Chemistro randomly wrecking havoc on streets and approach him only to fall one by one. Mockingbird was only one left standing and she beat him with shield and gun of Captain America.

Then all four of Wrecking Crew showed up next, which was too much for her even with some help from Ronin and Webhead. As Wrecker was poking Cage, he and his pals are blown away by arrival of Sentry but he too, fell soon to the dampener. Osborn and his cronies join shortly and have a talk with Harrow, who shows up on his armor HUD.

He simply wants to renegotiate a deal with Norman that he previously had with Robbins and he wishes to present him the device in return. To show worth of his word, Harrow took down his Dark Avengers before disassembling Osborn's armor. When a deal is finally made between them, his armor is restored and his team gets back on their feet.

Just when he was about to ask Venom to eat Spider-Man, incoming hit from a Quinjet scattered them all. Bobbi Morse came to rescue her friends out of this mess right on time but Daken claims to have their scent. Luke Cage was not feeling very well and is taken to Night Nurse, who informed them that he is having a cardiac arrest.

Since they couldn't get through his unbreakable skin and needed the disruptor for that, Cage walked over to his enemies and collapsed. He is taken into custody and taken care of while rest of his friends retreated. Back at their secret hideout, his wife Jessica Jones wants to go in for a rescue but Ms. Marvel stops her telling they have a plan.

Earlier, The Hood went after Doctor Strange to take his Eye of Agamotto and ended up fighting New Avengers, which left him badly burnt and without power. Loki came to his aid in hospital offering him another chance and he promptly accepted. He and Madame Masque are led to Cuba in search for a power greater than he ever wielded.

For twelfth storyline of New Avengers monthly comic-book series, Marvel Comics have assigned writer Brian Michael Bendis (House of M, Secret War) and artist Stuart Immonen (All-New Captain America – Hydra Ascendant, Ultimate Fantastic Four – Doom) to work on issues #55-60 from ongoing titular publication back in 2010.

Current narrative of "Powerloss" is set during "Dark Reign" crossover event and takes place almost simultaneously alongside previous story "Search for the Sorcerer Supreme". With a power struggle already tearing up criminal underworld of New York, villains have gotten their hands on a device that can strip anyone of their power.

End of Luke Cage?

After Parker Robbins briefly went away from scene, everyone in his gang has thought him to be gone for good and sided with Dr. Harrow. He arranges and demonstrates a show of what he can offer to Norman Osborn before handing him that device. The Avengers were caught in a trap without even knowing but then made it out eventually.

Only one greatly affected by that machine was Luke Cage, who needed a heart surgery and had to go back to Osborn. Though they treated Cage, a transmitter was put in his heart to make sure he follows suit when he fully recovers. More of this madness will continue to and even come to an end on upcoming "Siege" tie-in story up next.
