Venom – Absolute Carnage | Comics

Cletus Kasady is back from dead to unleash "Absolute Carnage", with Venom is caught between saving his son and stopping him.

Fighting against mystical beings during "War of the Realms" lately, Eddie Brock got separated from his Venom symbiote and is free now. He wonders whether he was turned into a monster by his other or his symbiote became evil due to his influence. He checks on his son Dylan Brock to realize that the boy has a fever and needs to be taken care of.

Having violent hallucinations of Klyntar in his head, Brock shows up at Daily Globe to meet their editor-in-chief, Clark. Though he is grateful to Eddie for his time here as an intern, he can't hire him because of past criminal records. However, he asks Brock if he can solve a case of missing kids without killing anyone, only then can they discuss about a job.

Using his old investigative journalist skills, Brock goes to a stash house in New York's seedy underbelly to see if they know anything about missing kids. Seeing no guards and blood on door handle, Eddie becomes very cautions and his inner Venom kicks in. Acting reckless, he notices a pile of cash and dead gang members on floor, all soaked in blood.

Soon as he gets hit by a baseball bat, Brock came to his senses and brutally fought back a group of people with black eyes and crimson spirals. Beating them, he hears children screaming and steps into next room to find out Emill Gregg AKA Sin-Eater is apparently back from dead and standing on a sigil of blood, resurrected by Knull, God of symbiotes.

Narrowly escaping its grip, he reluctantly seeks help from Spider-Man and plans to non-lethally extract codices from all past hosts.

To test codex-extraction machine of The Maker, Reed Richards from an alternate universe, they plan on getting Norman Osborn out of Ravencroft Institute, leaving Dylan Brock and Normie Osborn with him at Rex Strickland's warehouse. With no hope of getting out alive, both Spidey and Venom gets viciously swarmed by minions of Dark Carnage.

When his machine is finished, The Maker insists on Normie to test it out but Dylan refuses to let him do so. As they were arguing, a proximity alarm goes off and Life Foundation symbiotes Agony, Lasher, Phage and Riot breaks in. They were sent here by Carnage to claim Normie Osborn's codex but The Maker holds them off with his techs.

Dylan and Normie takes shelter at the armory but Phage comes after them regardless only to get its neck snapped by Sleeper, most recent seventh spawn of Venom symbiote. Shortly after introducing himself to Dylan, he gets blasted off with a sonic wave from Maker and he proceeds to put it in a canister along with other Life Foundation symbiotes.

Dylan makes a plan to escape realizing that Maker will forcibly use his machine on Normie and freed Agony, Lasher, Phage and Riot to distract him. Before he could activate anti-symbiote defenses, they all bonds to him and turned him into Hybrid. Chasing after those kids, he came across Captain America, Spider-Man, Thing and Wolverine.

Absolute Carnage | Comics

Psychotic offspring of Venom has returned to kill everyone who ever worn a symbiote to unleash "Absolute Carnage".

A secret cult who calls themselves Church of the New Darkness and worships Knull, God of the Symbiotes, have resurrected deceased serial killer Cletus Kasady, former host of Carnage to bond with dragon-like creature known as Grendel and he goes on a hunt for people who has ever worn a symbiote whether they are alive or dead.

Everyone who ever were a host carries a little trace of symbiote within their system and Kasady is collecting these codices to awaken Knull from his prison planet by reconnecting to its hive mind. He claims remnants from past Ghost Rider host Alejandra Jones, Leonard Elkhart, inhabitants of Doverton and multiple Weapon V operatives.

After losing his Venom suit lately, Eddie Brock tells this to warn Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and even his arch-rival Spider-Man to hide. His interrogation video is sent to FBI while he was sitting in cafeteria of Ryker's Island penitentiary. There he is confronted by another former host Lee Price and his goon squad trying to intimidate him.

Hysterically laughing at his pathetic attempts, Brock punches him and takes his Mania symbiote back. Bonding to it, "Eddie" reveals him to be Cletus Kasady after all who is here to ruin Brock's reputation. Transforming into a monstrous form, he was thinking of going after Life Foundation, Norman Osborn and Toxin, only to notice Spidey swinging by.

Keeping a low profile, Eddie tries to fill in his son Dylan about history of symbiotes and how Cletus Kasady is out there collecting codex as they are heading towards Times Square. Seeing a shadowy figure approaching, they quickly ran towards subway but got pushed down on tracks by Kasady and his Venom symbiote jumps in to save him.

Handing his kid over to two nearby police officer, Brock attempts to fight Dark Carnage but soon realizes how outmatched he really is. Using weakness of Grendel symbiote, he shocks it electricity before narrowly made an escape. Reluctantly reaching out to Spider-Man for help, he explained everything he dealt with recently so far to him.

There, they saw news on TV about a discovery of a mass grave where bodies were found with their spines removed, including General "Thunderbolt" Ross. Eddie claims Kasady is taunting him and is after everyone who ever bonded with a symbiote, as well as his long-deceased wife Anne Weying who once became She-Venom in past.

Trying to find a way to extract codices of former hosts without killing them, these two then approaches The Maker, who is Reed Richards from an alternate universe and Spidey brought his godson Normie Osborn, who previously bonded to Carnage symbiote. Apparently, he already has been building a machine that could do what they wanted.

Skeptical of safety of these kids, they decide to test it on Norman Osborn (Red Goblin) and goes to fetch him from Ravencroft Institute. With help from John Jameson, Spider-Man and Venom made successful entry into the prison but Cletus Kasady arrives to infect entire compound with Grendel symbiote, leading a horde of Dark Carnage minions.

Eddie Brock gets busy fighting off these doppelgangers; Kasady picks up Spidey and throws him onto Norman's cell door. Having his psyche overwritten by Cletus, he adopts a new look resembling to that serial killer. As he tries to cut off a downed Wall-Crawler, Osborn gets knocked out by Venom and turned into Carnage by Grendel.

Seeing no way of winning this, Eddie bails out Pete out of an overwhelming mob and decides to get back to other hosts. Meanwhile, The Maker tries to test his machine on Normie, he is protested by Dylan but their conversation is interrupted when former Life Foundation symbiotes Agony, Lasher, Phage and Riot break into warehouse.

Corrupted by Knull, these offspring of Venom are here to seek Normie but are thwarted by Reed and eventually separated from their hosts. Sensing his intent of using that machine on his friend anyway, Dylan frees the captured symbiotes. They all fused together into a Hybrid and bonds with The Maker that starts chasing the boys.

However, his endeavor is halted by sudden arrival of Captain America, Thing, Wolverine and Spider-Man, which forced him to flee. Elsewhere, Dark Carnage sits on a throne in subway tunnels while his agents go after other individuals. Venom was able to save Scorpion from Osborn but unfortunately loses Miles Morales to him.

Bruce Banner has finished Maker's machine to extract codices from heroes and villains that bonded with symbiotes. Captain Marvel, Deadpool, Iron Fist and Misty Knight had their fair share of trouble with army of Carnage as well. A newly revived Scream symbiote bonds to Patricia Robertson and fought Osborn to save Andi Benton.

Carnage spreads chaos across New York City by turning groups of civilians and homeless people into his lackeys to hunt down his targets. Eddie Brock puts his game face on for an ultimate showdown with a Grendel-Imbued Cletus Kasady. Even if he can stand his ground till the end, he may not be able to prevent it from awakening Knull.

Spiraling out of an arc from fourth ongoing volume of Venom comic-book series of 2018, "Absolute Carnage" is a five-part limited series by writer Donny Cates (Doctor Strange – Damnation, Thanos – Thanos Wins) and artist Ryan Stegman (Amazing Spider-Man – Venom Inc., Inhuman – Lineage) that explores core plot of titular event.

In an attempt to take a new direction in "Rex" storyline, Cates introduced a new enemy named Knull. Then happenings of "The Abyss" have Eddie Brock teaming up with Reed Richards of Ultimate Universe AKA The Maker. Following "War of The Realms" and recent revival of Cletus Kasady sets things into motion that are out of his control.

A handful of tie-in series and one-shot issues reflected on other heroes and villains dealing with symbiote collective. Several flashback and references from past events of "Carnage, U.S.A.", "Family Feud" and "Planet of the Symbiotes" were given. During end battle segment, Hulk becomes a recent host of Klyntar to fight Dark Carnage.

It took a lot for Venom just to keep up with his eternal adversary even with help from Captain America, Captain Marvel, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Miles Morales and The Thing. Life Foundation symbiotes and former Weapon Plus operatives have provided Eddie a fighting chance when they are blended into Legion symbiote.

Cates initially intended to use this plot for his current run on Venom series of books but then decided to expand his original idea by putting many key-players into it. At the very end of this bloody conflict, Marvel Comics teases another unnamed major event for near future with awakening of primordial evil Knull, who is coming to collect.

Venom – War of The Realms | Comics

Shortly after discovering his cancer returning, Eddie Brock asks The Maker to remove his symbiote and it ends up escaping into a crowd. "War of The Realms" reaches to Earth in the meantime, causing death and destruction around. Eddie tries to find a safe place for his son Dylan Brock as monsters running rampant in New York City.

Now that he has no Venom symbiote to keep him safe, Brock plans to take Dylan to abandoned safehouse of Rex Strickland. They came across a Fire Demon nearing an alleyway and patiently waited for that monster to go away. Finding cover nearing a warehouse, Eddie sees a family being chased by Dark Elves that he decides to help.

He tries to drive those Elves to him to let their would-be victims escape and engages them in a brawl only to get stabbed by them. Leaving him to bleed out, they chase after civilians and then Dylan gets spotted by one Elf who attempted to kill him but got his neck broken by timely arrival of Brock while being observed by War Witches of Malekith.

Intrigued by his bloodlust and rage, one of the War Witches comes to Brock with an agenda when he arrives at Rex's safehouse. She casually melts a gun Eddie pointed at her and claims that he doesn't want a firearm but something else. So, she offers him a mystical Asgardian crystal called Dreamstone to conjure up a weapon that he desires.

Though Dylan warns him not to trust her, he reaches out to it and transforms into a Venom-like symbiote creature with crystal spikes and Nordic runes inscribed on its body, which feels very similar to his other, yet quite different. It starts to heal his internal wounds but Brock bites off an arm of War Witch when she asked him to serve Malekith.

Keeping his ward behind safehouse doors, Eddie goes out to fulfill his duty as a "Lethal Protector" of innocents. He finds a group of Dark Elves torturing civilians beside a troll and his newfound symbiote fills him with bloodlust. To settle scores of their previous encounter, Venom mercilessly rips them apart and decapitated the troll as well.

He realizes that his dark emotions are being manifested by power of Dreamstone and Brock even introduces himself to a civilian as Venom by referring himself to "I" instead of usual "we". Elsewhere, the hurt War Witch feels humiliated at Eddie's betrayal and she attempts to seek a new pawn in a dark apartment, who turns out to be Jack O'Lantern.

Eddie Brock continues to clear streets amidst an all-out chaos and his suit grows stronger as he flips over a Roxxon tank. An imposter who was humiliated by Venom in past, Jack is powered by a Dreamstone crystal and goes after his enemy. He hits up Brock with a burst of flame and mocks him for not do away with his symbiote's great weakness to fire.

Eddie doesn't even flinch by his enhanced suit or flaming bat skeleton and instead recalls his memory of almost killing previous Jack O'Lantern. He then sics a pair of Wild Hunt hounds on Venom when he wasn't able to get an upper hand. As he was giving chase to Jack throughout the city, he suddenly gets smashed with a mace of a Frost Giant.

His feeling of concern and love for Dylan starts making him weak and so, Brock recalls on more bad memories. He grows big to match sizes with them to finish them off and his symbiote even adapts to Jack's attack by shaping into Asgardian armor. Eddie's growing rage gives War Witch hope of eventually turning him into a war-puppet for Malekith.

Venom – The Abyss | Comics

Going through an emotional meat grinder, Eddie Brock learns of a little brother he never knew of and secrets of his Venom symbiote.

After his encounter with Knull, God of symbiotes, it took all of Eddie Brock and his partner Venom to go up against him. They manage to burn his remains into ashes but not before Eddie's connection with Klyntar are severed. With its voice being stripped now, he becomes alone and wakes up into a lab next to a man in shadows.

He introduces himself as The Maker, Reed Richards of Ultimate universe and starts unraveling his motives. Knowing that Brock has recently fought against Grendel symbiote linked to an elder god, he sent a team posing as Anti-Symbiote Taskforce to extract sample of that dragon's remains, who found Eddie's badly-burnt body out there.

Since Brock has no recollection of past events that happened after his encounter with dragon symbiote, The Maker reveals to him that Grendel survived and he was able to extract a sample from but it was stolen from his lab earlier. Believing Eddie has some form of connection to person or people who stole it, Reed has abducted him.

Currently working for a group who calls themselves "Project Oversight", he fills in on how Venom went berserk on his extraction team when they found Brock and even killed a few. He then showed up on his father's doorstep, scaring his younger half-brother Dylan before he is locked up by Oversight, which he has no memory of.

The Maker also remarks that his symbiote has been erasing parts of his memory to spare him from trauma and Eddie asks if he has extracted Venom. He throws a scalpel at Brock that a tendril has caught, which explains that Klyntar is still there. However, its battle against Knull was so taxing that now it has lost voice or personality.

The Maker tells him that they need to reconnect his symbiote to its hive-mind and late Flash Thompson is the only person who has survived that experience. Eddie is distraught to suddenly learn that Flash is no more and gets furious immediately upon learning that he stole a codex, cellular imprint of his symbiote from Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S.

When he states to dig Flash up Arlington National cemetery to extract his codex and try to reconnect it to hive-mind, Eddie Brock angrily charges at him with a raging fury in his Venom form. He then proceeds to leave with Flash's codex after locking The Maker up in a morgue locker but is faced with armed forces with sonic cannons.

Eddie absorbs Flash's symbiote and let his personality to take over, transforming into Agent Venom and makes a swift escape. He goes to Arlington for real this time to pay his respects to Flash Thompson, promising to continue the good fight. To seek some answers from his past, Brock rides a bus straight to his home at San Francisco.

The Maker eventfully comes out of his captivity and enters a room observing many events at play involving Galactus and Silver Surfer, Morlun, Spider-Army, Thanos and The Unseen. A hooded figure hands out a vial stolen from Maker's lab to a woman claiming to serve their lord Knull as they stand next to a badly-burnt Cletus Kasady.

Alongside his Venom symbiote that has taken the form of a dog, Eddie shows up at his father's doorstep and recalls a childhood accident that bankrupted their family. His attempt to find out why he came here a month ago goes down to drain as Carl Brock wants nothing to do with his son and punches him out before closing the door on his face.

His symbiote violently reacts to this by turning into an enormous maw but leaves abruptly seeing a young boy named Dylan Brock calling Carl "dad". While he has taken temporary shelter to street and has starts coughing blood, a badly bruised Dylan showed up to him in an alleyway days later, claiming that they have to kill their father.

Eddie Brock is being haunted by recurring nightmares, visions of a past that he doesn't know off but somehow he realizes that it has something to do with his other. He sees a band of Norse warriors desperately tries to fight against a demonic force that comes to them in form of black tendrils and devours them all bursting through the doors.

He wakes up in the middle of the night in shock to find his Venom symbiote trying to hide in a corner. Turns out it was his other who had the nightmare and he then takes a handful of anti-psychosis pills to shut them down so he can think for a moment. With the pills starting to take effect, it gets furious and threatens Eddie to kill him in his sleep.

He never saw it react so violently, which is making him worried and then hearing to a police scanner, they quickly heads out to pursue a case on Jack O'Lantern that he has been working for months. However, rather than jumping in and break some bones, Brock just takes pictures that he can sell but the villain tries to escape by shooting a cop.

The symbiote takes over and ambushes to a fleeing Jack and the guy behind the pumpkin helmet is scared to death to see him. As it starts to gouge his eyes, cops come shooting from behind and the suit responds by turning into the monster from Eddie's nightmare, sporting a crimson spiral on forehead speaking an ancient alien language.

The suit loses control and attempts to attack the policemen but hit by an explosive bullet. Even though the shooter came looking for Flash Thompson, he takes Eddie and leaves. Gaining his senses back, Eddie realizes he is restrained in a dark room with a blast furnace in it and his captor knows well enough how to keep a symbiote at bay.

Venom – Rex | Comics

The man named Rex Strickland asks him if he knows anything about Project Rebirth 2.0 but Eddie only knows that the original program has created Captain America and a few years ago, the government restarted it to weaponize the Venom symbiote.

He believes that they wanted to create a new supersoldier program but Rex corrects him saying he is not the first but the latest. During Vietnam War, Strickland and his comrades were part of a Sym-Soldier Program. He got out and become an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. but his friends were permanently bonded and now he needs help to rescue them.

After the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D., those four are being transported to be executed and to get some answers, Brock goes to rescue them. Ramming down one of the trucks, Venom sees four of them coming out with red spirals on forehead, speaking that same alien language and impales him when he lunges at them as his other leaves him.

Though it came back soon to heal him back and they both see their symbiotes leave while the hosts turn into corpses. His suit translates the ancient alien language to him as "God is coming" and then a massive dragon-like being is awaken from the ground. Seeing the creature go on a city-wide rampage after that, Eddie quickly rushes to the spot.

What he never expected was Spider-Man, Miles Morales sneaking up on him and Venom goes berserk on him by turning as one of those monsters from his dreams. Eddie somehow breaks through and Miles unloads a "Venom Blast" to free him from the corruption. The boy lost his parents to a symbiote and Brock assures him that it was not him.

Seeing the oncoming threat approaching to the city, they prepare for the final battle and Eddie plans on using Miles' Venom Blasts on the dragon. Their plan worked and the dragon falls. From inside it, a pale figure comes out grabbing the head of an unconscious Spidey and Venom goes full berserk on him when he crushes a patrol helicopter.

However, the entity blasts the symbiote off him and took it with him after introducing himself to Eddie Brock as Knull, God of the Symbiotes. He shows Brock the events of how he existed from before the beginning of universe, forged the first symbiote to slay a Celestial, before being cast away and coming back as a God to take away his suit.

Venom – Rex

Considering both writer Donny Cates (Doctor Strange – Damnation, Thanos – Thanos Wins) and artist Ryan Stegman (Inhuman – Genesis, Uncanny Avengers – Lost Future) are two of the hottest comic-book creators right now, Marvel Comics have picked them up for a Venom storyline like never before and they came up with "Rex" in 2018.

Collecting the first six issues from the fourth ongoing volume of Venom monthly series, "Rex" chronicles the history of Klyntar symbiote that started 1000 years ago out of the darkness of cosmos, its encounter with The Mighty Thor during Viking Age (Thor – God of Thunder) and introduces a powerful ancient God-like entity, Knull, Lord of the Abyss.

Ancient Symbiote God

With The Avengers busy dealing with dead Celestials falling from sky (The Final Host) and the X-Men is nowhere to be found, Venom teams-up with Spider-Man, Miles Morales to face-off against a dragon-like symbiote collective called Grendel. Eddie has fought cancer, Carnage, Toxin and Anti-Venom but never faced anything like these new foes.

After facing Knull, the wicked web-slinger got some new power upgrades that'd come in handy in future. Also, involvement of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a Sym-Soldier Program from long ago is revealed. With a somewhat unpredictable plot twist at the end, Eddie Brock is seemingly left without a purpose but will be back in upcoming arc "The Abyss".
