The Dark Knight III – The Master Race | Comics

Three years have passed since anyone seen The Dark Knight of Gotham City and other heroes have retreated while a Master Race rises.

The Dark Knight has been gone after the fall of Lex Luthor's tyrannical reign and demise of a Joker-like Dick Grayson, who was hell-bent on killing off elderly heroes. Batman has been gone off the grids for three years now and Bruce Wayne is also nowhere to be found. Because of his long absence, many believe that he is dead and not coming back this time.

Someone enters the Batcave to shatter down a display case where the Batsuit was hanging and took it. Suddenly, images of a shrouded figure beating up trigger-happy cops chasing an unarmed suspect blows up on media, who appears to be Batman.

In a forest, Wonder Woman is fighting a giant Minotaur while holding her young son Jonathan on her back to save the natives from it. Upon defeating the creature, Diana heads back to Paradise Island for a sparring session with her daughter Lara, only to learn that she is gone.

Always questioned about her inheritance, she finds Superman inside the Fortress of Solitude, who has willingly frozen himself on an icy throne. Hearing noise, Lara discovers the Bottle City of Kandor, which she then takes to Ray Palmer AKA The Atom and asks for his help to restore the shrunken city of Kandor.

The Mayor hired a P.R. firm to handle the situation as Commissioner Ellen Yindel is being bombard with question from journalists regarding her thoughts on the return of Batman. Later, as she was thinking about current situation, a sighting of the vigilante alarmed her. With cops in pursuit, the mysterious figure violently fights back when surrounded.

After the angry mob of police was done beating, Yindel unmasks the person and it turns out to be Carrie Kelley in Bat costume, who used to be former Robin. Commissioner asks Carrie about Bruce Wayne's whereabouts and she claims him to be dead.

A badly-beaten Carrie is taken into custody for interrogation but Commissioner Yindel had no success at all. While transferring her to Blackgate, the tank-like Batmobile comes crushing at her rescue and she escapes in it. She returns to Batcave to see Bruce Wayne standing over, waiting for her arrival.

Lara approaches Doctor Palmer with a resident of Kandor named Baal seeking help to restore their city. Ray reveals that his past attempts gone horribly wrong to Lara and Baal but then she storms off hearing her mother's call. When returned to new Amazon city, she engaged in sparring with her mother.

Upon calibrating his shrinking tech and required variables about Kryptonian physiology, Ray takes the Bottle City of Kandor in a desert and brought back Kandor citizens in full-size. He then realized many of them were dead at the hands of a fanatic cult led by Baal's father Quar. Ray is shrunk using his own technology and stepped over by Baal.

His father then obliterates the bottle city and its remaining inhabitants for not following him. Quar makes a demand to the world that he and his followers are to be accepted as Gods or perish. Realizing he is too old to fight them, Bruce pays a visit to Fortress of Solitude.

Following the ground-breaking success of "The Dark Knight Returns" and "The Dark Knight Strikes Again", writer Frank Miller (300, Ronin) returned with third installment of The Dark Knight Trilogy from DC Comics in 2017 after it started in 2015. Brian Azzarello (Wonder Woman – Blood, Wonder Woman – Guts) also helped Miller devise a more balanced plot this time than his past efforts of writing senseless superhero violence.

Artist Andy Kubert (Before Watchmen – Nite Owl, Damian – Son of Batman) draws core story from all issues while Klaus Janson returned to work on tie-in shorts, also set on the same alternate reality of Earth-31 from DC Multiverse.

Whereas "The Dark Knight Returns" kind of expected all readers to assume the worst have happened to our vigilante hero before they even began and "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" just started throwing things at us without any explanation, DKIII actually tries to dive slightly deeper than before while leaving possibilities for a sequel.

Aside from regular primary character of this series, AquamanThe FlashGreen Lantern Hal Jordan, Hawkman and Hawkgirl appeared throughout the story. Hopefully, we will see young Jonathan grow up to be Superboy as his elder sister becomes a Supergirl in this brave-new world.

Lex Luthor – New 52 | Comics

There is one thing that is bigger than Lex Luthor's brilliance and wealth; his ego. A self-made man with a superiority complex, he made fortune by selling Battlesuits as the owner of LexCorp and that's how he became the most dominant business of Metropolis.

He was recruited into a secret government project Project: Steel Soldier against Superman with General Lane. Luthor stole Kryptonite from them and then leaked the news to Clark Kent. He was imprisoned for helping Brainiac but was released for lack of evidence.

After Justice League was formed, he was sent to prison again for selling super-weapons, thanks to Superman. During his time in prison, Superman would've visited him many times for his opinion on scientific catastrophes as well as Pandora (Trinity War).

Luthor was released and returned as CEO of LexCorp. When the Crime Syndicate took over the world, he decided to stop them. So, he assembled Bizarro, Black Adam, Black Manta, Captain Cold, Deathstroke and Sinestro to aid the duo of Batman and Catwoman.

He managed to save Nightwing's life, killed his Earth 3 counterpart and then defeated Ultraman (Forever Evil). Afterwards, he was considered as a hero and eventually joined the Justice League to fight the Amazo Virus (Injustice League).

As Darkseid dies after his battle with Anti-Monitor, Luthor absorbed a large amount of Anti-Life Equation energy, becoming the "God of Apokolips" and ruled Apokolips (Darkseid War). He returned to Earth after "The Final Days of Superman" and took his mantle wearing Superman's cape.

Writer Geoff Johns (Flash – Rebirth, Green Lantern – Rebirth) and Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Final Crisis) were pretty much involved for his character development. Starting his journey in The New 52 by debuting on the second volume of Action Comics, issue #1, Lex has played the role of Superman's arch-nemesis to his teammate, ultimately donning the cape following "DC Universe – Rebirth".

Flashpoint | Comics

Barry Allen, the second Flash wakes up on his desk to find himself in a world of an alternate timeline, where he isn't known as world's fastest speedster The Flash and any superheroes doesn't even exist except Cyborg. He found out that, one of his arch-nemesis for years, Captain Cold has become a hero of Central City and now going by the name of Citizen Cold. Many other elements from the original reality he knew are missing from around as well and in this new world, no one has ever surprisingly heard of Justice League or Superman.

To his surprise, he discovered his long deceased mother Nora is very much alive and his father has passed away instead of being at jail. Barry also learns that The Dark Knight of this timeline is not Bruce Wayne but his father, a vengeful Thomas Wayne, who runs the Wayne Casinos with Oswald Cobblepot as a disguise to his crusade during daytime and embarks his cape at night to be Batman. However, Thomas is way more ruthless and brutal to his enemies as the caped crusader than his son that Barry knew of.

Cyborg is considered as a major heroic figure of the United States, who is trying to deal with the massive ongoing battle between the race of Atlantians and Amazons, led by Emperor Aquaman and Wonder Woman. She killed Colonel Steve Trevor who was trying to reach reporter Lois Lane, who was saved by Grifter and The Resistance. Aside from Barry Allen, Booster Gold and Kid Flash seem to be the only persons present in that timeline, who seems to know about the abnormal differences of the realities in this world.

Barry decided to approach Batman to seek his aid in stopping this senseless madness that the two races have unleashed upon mankind. When he entered the Batcave, Thomas attacked him thinking an intruder and almost broke his hand before he could talk. He finally made Thomas listen to him when he decided to show his costume but Barry's ring ejects the Reverse-Flash costume. He then suspects that his greatest enemy Professor Zoom has been secretly manipulating the time stream and wants Barry to know his involvement.

Thomas intends to help him if he can reverse his timeline and assists him to recreate the accident which gave him the power of Speed-Force. In their first attempt, Barry got badly burnt and barely survived but he managed to get his power in their next try. Barry then informs Batman that they are going to need the help of Superman, who is held captive by U.S. Government since he came to Earth. For this job, they decided to call Cyborg and he joined these two to secure the last Kryptonian for saving their reality from destruction.

"Flashpoint" is a major DC Comics crossover event that totally changed the landscape of DC Universe. Originally released as a five issue limited series, "Flashpoint" was published in mid 2011 and consists of issues written by Geoff Johns (Blackest Night, Infinite Crisis) and drawn by artist Andy Kubert (Batman Vs. Predator, Dark Knight III – The Master Race) along with many other tie-ins books. DC also released quite a few other limited series as tie-in story for main plot of this crossover like Abin Sur - The Green Lantern, Batman - Knight of Vengeance, Emperor Aquaman, Project Superman and Wonder Woman and the Furies.

What "Flashpoint" did to DC Universe is, it kept all that happened before this event intact as history but took all characters to a new reality where they already have been living for long with a rich legacy of their own, yet to be discovered. This event also brings an end of regular New Earth continuity and jump-started a new era with a complete different timeline of Prime Earth with every issues from each publication of books are titled “The New 52”. Then there were more crossovers like "Convergence" and "DC Rebirth" that re-shaped that continuity by bringing heroes like New Earth Superman and then tying with Watchmen franchise in same timeline.
