Manipulating life-events of Superman from beyond, the mysterious Mister Oz finally reveals himself.

Clark Kent has moved to Metropolis lately but he is been busy ever since dealing with The Godslayer (Men of Steel), the Superman Revenge Squad (The New World) and Mr. Mxyzptlk (Superman Reborn), followed by one of their recent family road-trip (Hopes and Fears).

Just like every other day, Superman was busy saving the world and talking to Lois Lane on phone. Then he heard gunshots and screams, which led him to the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia. Saving the locals from gunmen and wolves, he finds computer chip on their neck.

He calls out the mastermind behind this chaos named Machinist and the villain appears but turns out it was a decoy. As he takes him down, everyone else controlled by the chips fell but more of them emerge on all around the globe.

A lead he found on the chip took him to Lex Luthor and the latter claims someone stole his work. Luthor dons his Apokalyptian warsuit, and team-up with Superman to head for Kasmir/India border. There, the Machinist took control over Lex for a while to fight against Man of Steel but then he managed to regain control.

Luthor successfully foiled Machinist's sinister plan with Superman and then begins investigating security footage of his suit. When he was about to discover a potential clue to uncover this mystery, Mister Oz suddenly appears in his lab, deleted footage and then hit him with a blast from his eye before leaving.

He then visits a captive Metallo in A.R.G.U.S. to pull his kryptonite heart, killing him and then tells his followers to be ready for the next day. The following day, Superman gets busy saving a shipment of smallpox vaccine on Metropolis. Lois visits Perry White at Daily Planet with Jon Kent while Steve Lombard tries to impress the boy.

Meanwhile, as his plan to spread anarchy around the world progress, Mister Oz reflects on how humanity hasn't evolved yet and remained brutal savages. To keep check on all these affairs, Superman desperately run to prevent prison riot, racial clash, ship wreck on the coast and terrorism worldwide but even he cannot handle all of that at once.

Earlier, Superman delivered smallpox vaccine on Logamga but now there is only death and chaos everywhere. Demonstrating how humanity is a lost cause after pushing them on the edge, Mister Oz comes out of the flames and takes him back to Fortress of Solitude.

There, Oz finally reveals his partly-disfigured face to Superman after removing his hood. He claims to be his presumed long-deceased father; Jor-El and is here to take him away from this world.

Action Comics – The Oz Effect

"The Oz Effect" is the fifth storyline from the Action Comics monthly ongoing era that started after "DC Rebirth". This epic story brought Man of Steel closer to discover the connection with Watchmen and most possibly the person who is responsible for creating The New 52 timeline and tampering reality; Doctor Manhattan.

Collecting issues #985-992 from the comic-book series of DC Comics, the plotline was delivered by writer Dan Jurgens (Metamorpho – Year One, Superman/Doomsday – Hunter/Prey), who was aided by artists Guillem March (Catwoman – Dollhouse, Catwoman – The Game), Ryan Sook (DC Universe Online – Legends, The New 52 – Futures End) and Viktor Bogdanovic (New Super-Man – Coming to America, New Super-Man – Made in China).

The After Effects

A grand-plot that was being developed behind-the-scene for some time, "The Oz Effect" draws conclusion to a long-running mystery of who Mister Oz really is but sadly, the character lasted for a very limited time after the revelation. Much of where he was all these time before appearing on Prime Earth and how he came here is still remains unanswered.

At one point, Superman discovered Doomsday still captive on Oz's off-world base instead of Phantom Zone in the middle of the fight with Oz. The epilogue of the arc saw a few cameos from fellow Justice League member Batman, Booster Gold and Green Lantern.

Even "The Men of Tomorrow" arc from The New 52 era was also referenced for Superman's previous encounter with the villain known as the Machinist. Also, the prophecy of Luthor becoming the incarnation of Darkseid by The Godslayer was teased shortly. The upcoming "Doomsday Clock" limited series crossover will possibly shed more light on the whole scenario.

Action Comics – Path of Doom | Comics

The original Man of Steel returns to a new version of Earth, where he faces Doomsday to save Metropolis.

With The Final Days of Superman have ended, Lex Luthor decided to take up the mantle of the fallen hero who fought beside him and declared himself as the new Superman dedicated to protect Metropolis and watch over as the new savior.

When he stopped a robbery on broad daylight in live television with an S-Shield on his chest, Clark White was watching it in his house with his wife Lois Lane and son Jon Kent at his Hamilton County home.

Thinking him as the same old evil Lex Luthor he fought all his life on another Earth, Clark dons his cape and flew to Metropolis with an urge to stop this maniac. Interrupting Lex’s speech mid-way, Superman appears hovering over and claiming himself as the real protector of the city but Lex simply accuses him of being an impostor.

As Superman was about to approach Luthor, his warsuit responded by attacking automatically in self-defense and a fight broke in on the mid-air of Metropolis because of the mutual misunderstanding.

Their fight draws city-wide attention and to cover the story, Perry White sends the best reporter of Daily Planet to aid photographer Jimmy Olsen cover the story; Clark Kent. The heist that Luthor earlier stopped was a cover-up for another theft of a top-secret package from Geneticron.

However, the thing inside it suddenly wakes up and crashes in the middle of the fight. Before Luthor could even react, Superman recognizes it as the only abomination that killed him; Doomsday!

Both Superman and Luthor charges at the beast with everything they got without wasting any time but it proved to be too strong even for the combined might of them. While Superman trades blows with the monster, Luthor tries to drive it away from the civilians.

Lois watches the whole conflict from home on TV thinking of the time when Superman faced Doomsday for the first time, with an unbeknownst Jon to the event, who believes that his father can defeat the creature.

At point on the fight, Doomsday got his hands on Luthor and tears apart his Apokalyptian armor but the timely intervention of Superman eventually saved his life. Reporter Clark Kent gets in the path of Doom risking his life to get the scoop Perry sent him for and fell in front of the beast.

Then the sudden arrival of Wonder Woman took him out of the harm's way and the warrior princess joins the battle against Doomsday! Meanwhile, a mysterious hooded figure watches all of these from an undisclosed location, who has an agenda of his own which is larger than all that’s going on.

Action Comics – Path of Doom

With the usher of the “DC Rebirth”, comic-book writer Dan Jurgens (Aquaman, The Death of Superman) has joined forces with artist Patrick Zircher (Green Arrow – New 52, Suicide Squad – New 52) and Tyler Kirkham (Deathstroke – New 52, Green Lantern Corps) to debut a new era on the new Action Comics monthly ongoing with the first story titled “Path of Doom”.

It ran through issue #957-962 of the series that features the return of Doomsday, a newly reformed Lex Luthor, Superman of New Earth, reporter Clark Kent who is not the Man of Steel and a certain Amazonian princess of Prime Earth.

The Last Stand!

The end-result of the Convergence crossover event and Darkseid War crossover arc from The New 52 timeline was also pointed out with the presence of Pre-Flashpoint Superman on Prime Earth and a reformed Lex Luthor in a warsuit powered by a mother box to become the new Superman of this world.

Considering writer Dan Jurgens was the original writer of "The Death of Superman" storyline, he has depicted a slightly alternate take of that classic event of DC Comics. Issues that were left unresolved are concluded in the "Welcome to the Planet" and "Men of Steel" story-arc of the series up next.

Superman – Doomed | Comics

As Superman started dating Wonder Woman now (The Villain's Journey), the media has already dubbed them as the “Power Couple” of the world. Following their recent battle with Kryptonian despot Dru-Zod and his follower Faora that ended up in a massive nuclear blast, both of them head off to heal themselves and a mysterious being of unimaginable brute force unleashes its nonsensical murdering rampage by killing whomever it faces in somewhere else.

Since its kill count is growing rapidly and anyone sent to the zone is dying from radiation exposure it exerts, the military calls up for Superman's help. Meanwhile, reporter Lois Lane goes to Smallville for investigating a case of citizens falling into a sudden coma like state. The Justice League finds out that the murderous being known as Doomsday is actually seeking Superman and Lex Luthor suggests he can save the planet by taking the monster along with him out of the world.

Agreeing to this, Superman faces Doomsday in a deadly battle for one last time where he eventually kills him using sheer force. However, in doing so by ripping the creature in half, he also absorbs all of the exposure of toxic radiation by inhaling it all that the beast had released upon dying and he then slowly started to change like a Doomsday-like being. Not only he changed in the outside, Clark has totally lost his mild-mannered attitude and becomes more and more aggressive.

Worried for Clark’s well being and a sudden change of behavior, Diana sought their mutual friend Batman out for help and together, they visit the Phantom Zone for answers. Seeing his grotesque appearance and growing bestial nature, Superman surrenders himself to the authorities but even they deemed it impossible to contain him at one point when he becomes the "SuperDoom" creature. A recent attack from Metallo renders him weak, so Wonder Woman took him to outer space to figure a way out.

As Superman turns into a hulking being resembled to Doomsday, his cousin and newest Red Lantern member Supergirl and close friend Steel also came for aid while Brainiac keeps playing with the situation from behind the scene like a mastermind. When he finally shows up with Cyborg Superman and his armada to invade Earth, it appears that he has been controlling Lois Lane all along.

Borrowing elements from the iconic "The Death of Superman" story, writer Greg Pak (Incredible Hulk, World War Hulk), Charles Soule (New Gods – Godhead, Swamp Thing – New 52) and Scott Lobdell (The Darkness, WildC.A.T.s) has put together the grudge match of the two most powerful Kryptonians in “Superman – Doomed” crossover event in 2014 from DC Comics. Unlike the original milestone event where the Man of Steel seemingly faces his demise, this one actually ventures into a different dive of ideas by the creators which contains some twists as well.

Artist Ken Lashley, Aaron Kuder (The Amory Wars, Key of Z), Scott Kolins (Legion of Superheroes, Superman/Batman) and Tony Daniel (Deathstroke – New 52, The Savage Hawkman – Darkness Rising) joined forces with these visionary storytellers to envision the results in several monthly ongoing series including Action Comics, Superman/Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman/Superman and Supergirl of The New 52. "Superman – Doomed" is one of the first among the many story-arcs that will slowly led Superman of the Prime Earth to the events of "The Final Days of Superman".
