Venom – Absolute Carnage | Comics

Cletus Kasady is back from dead to unleash "Absolute Carnage", with Venom is caught between saving his son and stopping him.

Fighting against mystical beings during "War of the Realms" lately, Eddie Brock got separated from his Venom symbiote and is free now. He wonders whether he was turned into a monster by his other or his symbiote became evil due to his influence. He checks on his son Dylan Brock to realize that the boy has a fever and needs to be taken care of.

Having violent hallucinations of Klyntar in his head, Brock shows up at Daily Globe to meet their editor-in-chief, Clark. Though he is grateful to Eddie for his time here as an intern, he can't hire him because of past criminal records. However, he asks Brock if he can solve a case of missing kids without killing anyone, only then can they discuss about a job.

Using his old investigative journalist skills, Brock goes to a stash house in New York's seedy underbelly to see if they know anything about missing kids. Seeing no guards and blood on door handle, Eddie becomes very cautions and his inner Venom kicks in. Acting reckless, he notices a pile of cash and dead gang members on floor, all soaked in blood.

Soon as he gets hit by a baseball bat, Brock came to his senses and brutally fought back a group of people with black eyes and crimson spirals. Beating them, he hears children screaming and steps into next room to find out Emill Gregg AKA Sin-Eater is apparently back from dead and standing on a sigil of blood, resurrected by Knull, God of symbiotes.

Venom symbiote follows him to subway and bonds with him again to save him from Dark Carnage. Narrowly escaping its grip, he reluctantly seeks help from Spider-Man and plans to non-lethally extract codices from all past hosts.

To test codex-extraction machine of The Maker, Reed Richards from an alternate universe, they plan on getting Norman Osborn out of Ravencroft Institute, leaving Dylan Brock and Normie Osborn with him at Rex Strickland's warehouse. With no hope of getting out alive, both Spidey and Venom gets viciously swarmed by minions of Dark Carnage.

When his machine is finished, The Maker insists on Normie to test it out but Dylan refuses to let him do so. As they were arguing, a proximity alarm goes off and Life Foundation symbiotes Agony, Lasher, Phage and Riot breaks in. They were sent here by Carnage to claim Normie Osborn's codex but The Maker holds them off with his techs.

Dylan and Normie takes shelter at the armory but Phage comes after them regardless only to get its neck snapped by Sleeper, most recent seventh spawn of Venom symbiote. Shortly after introducing himself to Dylan, he gets blasted off with a sonic wave from Maker and he proceeds to put it in a canister along with other Life Foundation symbiotes.

Dylan makes a plan to escape realizing that Maker will forcibly use his machine on Normie and freed Agony, Lasher, Phage and Riot to distract him. Before he could activate anti-symbiote defenses, they all bonds to him and turned him into Hybrid. Chasing after those kids, he came across Captain America, Spider-Man, Thing and Wolverine.

Absolute Carnage | Comics

Psychotic offspring of Venom has returned to kill everyone who ever worn a symbiote to unleash "Absolute Carnage".

A secret cult who calls themselves Church of the New Darkness and worships Knull, God of the Symbiotes, have resurrected deceased serial killer Cletus Kasady, former host of Carnage to bond with dragon-like creature known as Grendel and he goes on a hunt for people who has ever worn a symbiote whether they are alive or dead.

Everyone who ever were a host carries a little trace of symbiote within their system and Kasady is collecting these codices to awaken Knull from his prison planet by reconnecting to its hive mind. He claims remnants from past Ghost Rider host Alejandra Jones, Leonard Elkhart, inhabitants of Doverton and multiple Weapon V operatives.

After losing his Venom suit lately, Eddie Brock tells this to warn Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and even his arch-rival Spider-Man to hide. His interrogation video is sent to FBI while he was sitting in cafeteria of Ryker's Island penitentiary. There he is confronted by another former host Lee Price and his goon squad trying to intimidate him.

Hysterically laughing at his pathetic attempts, Brock punches him and takes his Mania symbiote back. Bonding to it, "Eddie" reveals him to be Cletus Kasady after all who is here to ruin Brock's reputation. Transforming into a monstrous form, he was thinking of going after Life Foundation, Norman Osborn and Toxin, only to notice Spidey swinging by.

Keeping a low profile, Eddie tries to fill in his son Dylan about history of symbiotes and how Cletus Kasady is out there collecting codex as they are heading towards Times Square. Seeing a shadowy figure approaching, they quickly ran towards subway but got pushed down on tracks by Kasady and his Venom symbiote jumps in to save him.

Handing his kid over to two nearby police officer, Brock attempts to fight Dark Carnage but soon realizes how outmatched he really is. Using weakness of Grendel symbiote, he shocks it electricity before narrowly made an escape. Reluctantly reaching out to Spider-Man for help, he explained everything he dealt with recently so far to him.

There, they saw news on TV about a discovery of a mass grave where bodies were found with their spines removed, including General "Thunderbolt" Ross. Eddie claims Kasady is taunting him and is after everyone who ever bonded with a symbiote, as well as his long-deceased wife Anne Weying who once became She-Venom in past.

Trying to find a way to extract codices of former hosts without killing them, these two then approaches The Maker, who is Reed Richards from an alternate universe and Spidey brought his godson Normie Osborn, who previously bonded to Carnage symbiote. Apparently, he already has been building a machine that could do what they wanted.

Skeptical of safety of these kids, they decide to test it on Norman Osborn (Red Goblin) and goes to fetch him from Ravencroft Institute. With help from John Jameson, Spider-Man and Venom made successful entry into the prison but Cletus Kasady arrives to infect entire compound with Grendel symbiote, leading a horde of Dark Carnage minions.

Eddie Brock gets busy fighting off these doppelgangers; Kasady picks up Spidey and throws him onto Norman's cell door. Having his psyche overwritten by Cletus, he adopts a new look resembling to that serial killer. As he tries to cut off a downed Wall-Crawler, Osborn gets knocked out by Venom and turned into Carnage by Grendel.

Seeing no way of winning this, Eddie bails out Pete out of an overwhelming mob and decides to get back to other hosts. Meanwhile, The Maker tries to test his machine on Normie, he is protested by Dylan but their conversation is interrupted when former Life Foundation symbiotes Agony, Lasher, Phage and Riot break into warehouse.

Corrupted by Knull, these offspring of Venom are here to seek Normie but are thwarted by Reed and eventually separated from their hosts. Sensing his intent of using that machine on his friend anyway, Dylan frees the captured symbiotes. They all fused together into a Hybrid and bonds with The Maker that starts chasing the boys.

However, his endeavor is halted by sudden arrival of Captain America, Thing, Wolverine and Spider-Man, which forced him to flee. Elsewhere, Dark Carnage sits on a throne in subway tunnels while his agents go after other individuals. Venom was able to save Scorpion from Osborn but unfortunately loses Miles Morales to him.

Bruce Banner has finished Maker's machine to extract codices from heroes and villains that bonded with symbiotes. Captain Marvel, Deadpool, Iron Fist and Misty Knight had their fair share of trouble with army of Carnage as well. A newly revived Scream symbiote bonds to Patricia Robertson and fought Osborn to save Andi Benton.

Carnage spreads chaos across New York City by turning groups of civilians and homeless people into his lackeys to hunt down his targets. Eddie Brock puts his game face on for an ultimate showdown with a Grendel-Imbued Cletus Kasady. Even if he can stand his ground till the end, he may not be able to prevent it from awakening Knull.

Spiraling out of an arc from fourth ongoing volume of Venom comic-book series of 2018, "Absolute Carnage" is a five-part limited series by writer Donny Cates (Doctor Strange – Damnation, Thanos – Thanos Wins) and artist Ryan Stegman (Amazing Spider-Man – Venom Inc., Inhuman – Lineage) that explores core plot of titular event.

In an attempt to take a new direction in "Rex" storyline, Cates introduced a new enemy named Knull. Then happenings of "The Abyss" have Eddie Brock teaming up with Reed Richards of Ultimate Universe AKA The Maker. Following "War of The Realms" and recent revival of Cletus Kasady sets things into motion that are out of his control.

A handful of tie-in series and one-shot issues reflected on other heroes and villains dealing with symbiote collective. Several flashback and references from past events of "Carnage, U.S.A.", "Family Feud" and "Planet of the Symbiotes" were given. During end battle segment, Hulk becomes a recent host of Klyntar to fight Dark Carnage.

It took a lot for Venom just to keep up with his eternal adversary even with help from Captain America, Captain Marvel, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Miles Morales and The Thing. Life Foundation symbiotes and former Weapon Plus operatives have provided Eddie a fighting chance when they are blended into Legion symbiote.

Cates initially intended to use this plot for his current run on Venom series of books but then decided to expand his original idea by putting many key-players into it. At the very end of this bloody conflict, Marvel Comics teases another unnamed major event for near future with awakening of primordial evil Knull, who is coming to collect.

The man known as Wolverine isn't quite living up to the reputation he has made over years because he now lacks his incredible healing factor and can die. Logan goes to see Mr. Fantastic to know in details about his current condition. As Reed Richards laid it out for him, he cannot heal from any injuries he takes in this state, probably his bones are radioactive now and he should not use his claws anymore. Upon discussing with Hank McCoy and Tony Stark, he can find a solution but he needs some time to figure it out while Wolverine have to stay out of action for a while.

Logan knows that is not possible because, somehow news are going to spread about his vulnerability and he has a huge list of enemies who would come after him. He enters Eric's pub for a drink and left a map for anyone who comes looking for him. Former super-soldier turned mercenary Nuke showed up looking for him and thus he brought them all over to Logan's very own territory of British Columbia, Canada. Initially taking a few beating, Logan got the drop on him and then tortured to submission by repeatedly bashing Nuke's face with his Adamantium skull. He reveals that the bounty is only good if Logan is alive and the person who put a contract on him is none other than Viper. As he spared life of Frank Simpson, Wolverine goes to Madripoor to see her and even manages a meeting. There he found out that Sabretooth has become a pet dog to her and is weakened because of her poisoning.

Viper informs Logan that she did not put out a contract for him. In fact, she sub-contracted it for someone else to do it for her. She offers to tell him who the real contractor is if he can beat Sabretooth in fight but since he is not in his prime, Logan lost an eye and is viciously wounded. It was the timely intervention of Lady Deathstrike that saved him but he requests her to spare Victor Creed as he is drugged. Viper flew and Deathstrike tell him that all individuals with Adamantium implants are being attacked by Lord Ogun.

When talking, Yuriko notices that Logan isn't healing, so she decides to exchange his life for hers but as she was about to proceed, Kitty Pryde arrives to save the day. Kitty phased through her body, warning her about hurting Logan. After sending Yuriko away, she saves her fainted friend with Regen Serum. Since they both have past histories with Ogun, they travelled to Japan to find him. Ogun's spirit possessed Kitty Pryde by then but he ultimately retreats from two of them, leaving the name "Abraham Cornelius" within her mind.

One of most influential mutant hero of Marvel Comics sees the end in "Death of Wolverine" crossover by writer Charles Soule (Civil War II, Death of X) and artist Steve McNiven (Guardians of the Galaxy – Cosmic Avengers, Wolverine – Old Man Logan). The primary storyline revolved around the four-issue Death of Wolverine limited series that was released on 2015. Right after Logan's demise, the story actually starts to unfold as many friends came forward to mourn his loss. As one of Marvel's most popular character who gained fame being a member of X-Men and then went on to become a member of every other teams like Alpha Flight, S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers, Weapon X and X-Force.

A heartbroken Storm took the leadership of X-Men while his adopted daughter/clone Laura Kinney AKA X-23 forms a team called "Wolverines" with Daken, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique and Sabretooth to honor his memory. Despite a very bold move like killing one of their prominent characters, Marvel sure would find a replacement for him or make someone else take his mantle as he is gone now. Although not exactly in a same manner, "Death of Wolverine" was a source of inspiration for 2017's superhero film Logan with actor Hugh Jackman starring in titular role and have a different ending from the story.
