Batman – White Knight | Comics

The maniacal Clown Prince of Crime is finally cured of his insanity and tries to right his wrongs by saving Gotham City from Batman!

On the gates of Arkham Asylum, a Batmobile stops by and a person comes out of it to meet a patient, Batman. The guards escort him inside and as they update the man named Jack Napier about The Dark Knight, he simply asks the imprisoned vigilante to help him.

Flashback to a year prior, The Joker was on the run as Batman was chasing him in his Batmobile throughout the city with Batgirl at his side. During the pursuit, the clown makes him endanger public life by making him recklessly go through construction sites and rooftops. Nightwing saves a worker on the go and even one security guard was knocked off by the Bat when he was fanatically chasing the clown.

Following a brief taunting, these two arch-enemies start a fight in an empty building of the industrial district where the clown argues about the duality of their relationship and how his sanity is kept in check by fighting crime. At one point he pushes Batman too far pointing out the tragedy of his life and the young sidekicks only to be beaten more viciously.

The Joker takes out some pills he believes will cure him and the Caped Crusader shoved the whole package down his throat in front of GCPD, Jim Gordon, Det. Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya, effectively leaving him chocked while a woman filmed the scene.

The city breaks out in two fractions; some arguing over condemning Batman after the Hail Mary chase he put throughout Gotham and some still believing in him after the video of their fight was leaked and gone viral. Even Gordon and Bullock argues on whether they are on the right side before Batgirl arrives to check on the condition of the clown.

Bruce is confronted by Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon in Wayne Manor about his recent display of near-psychotic fits of rage, because his behavior doesn't seem alright. He then opens a secret door to passage downstairs where they see a dying Alfred Pennyworth lying on a bed and Bruce has enlisted the help of Victor Fries AKA Mister Freeze.

While he is deeply upset about his father-figure lying in a dying state, he goes back to check on Joker and then leaves abruptly. Jim Gordon meets the mayor in City Hall and Doctor Leslie Thompkins gives her report on the patient, Jack Napier has recovered and fully sane now. Although Gordon suspects that he is faking it, Leslie confirms him it to be otherwise.

With his newfound sanity, he is also working full-time on his legal case to file charges against Batman and GCPD. In a meeting with the cops, he gets out of his handcuffs and calmly explains how he can pin charges against them if he wants by going to trial, which he will win and claims that he is going to save Gotham from Batman as its White Knight.

In his trial, Jack Napier opens up about his recovery and how he was always a criminal who started with a bank robbery but was accused of committing murder or at least, the police never could show any evidence and been labeled as a super-criminal anyway.

He accuses the gatekeepers of Gotham to use his unstable mental condition as an excuse to scare the taxpaying Gothamites and used him as a source of revenue. With that, he walks free from trial due to lack of evidence and vows to eradicate vigilantism from the city.

He then goes back to Harley Quinn and although joyous to see him, she is almost immediately disgusted to see him not a psycho in makeup anymore. Napier apologizes to her for his years of abuse and negligence before proposing to marry her to make things right. She gut-punched him to the floor, only get kicked off by Harleen Quinzel.

It seems Harley left long ago and now came back to take him back with Bud and Lou. They catch up on their old days that are full of excitement but she was always blindsided by his obsession with The Dark Knight. Things went too far when Harley found him torturing Robin down in their basement and contacted Batman to get help without delay.

He beats down the maniac with an inch of his life before sending him to Arkham but they never found Jason Todd, ever. Even Napier couldn't remember what he really did to the Boy Wonder as The Joker. He wants to move on asks her help to rebuild Gotham together.

He calls for a meeting of his former colleagues including Baby Doll, Bane, Killer Croc, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Roxy Rocket, Scarecrow, Scarface/Ventriloquist, The Riddler and Two Face only to trick them into becoming his mind-controlled puppets with hat of Mad Hatter, by using Clayface as a signal conduit for a grand scheme to frame the Caped Crusader.

As planned, he unleashed an army of super-villains on the streets and police gave them chase before the Bat-Family arrived on scene. Wrecking havoc throughout the city, they are lured to the planned site of a library for Backport and it collapsed onto Batman. He came out badly injured and his life was saved at a great cost of a loved one.

Refusing to let go of the chance for Jack Napier to embrace The Joker persona once again, the Harley pretender suits up in an all-new avatar to get her lover back and finds out about the scheme Jack is playing and with help from Hatter, she managed to turn the tables.

Apparently, the pretender was a depressed banker named Marian Drews, who met The Joker during a bank robbery and became a part of his life. Now that he is gone, she intends to get him back and debuts as Neo Joker. She unleashes a crisis on Gotham that even Jack Napier sees no other way to save the city without the help of his archenemy.

Batman – White Knight

Back in 2017, DC Comics hired Sean Murphy (Hellblazer – City of Demons, Year One – Batman/Scarecrow) as both writer and artist for the eight-issue limited series title "White Knight" that run until 2018, primarily focused on one of Batman's worst villains and reflects on a side no one saw before as he ascends to sanity.

The long-running debate regarding the vigilante methods of Batman has crossed a few lines and it helped The Joker/Jack Napier to portray as a villain. Harleen Quinzel also played an important role to the overall plot and a huge ensemble of villains from Gotham showed up for a major clash with the Bat-Family and members of GCPD.

Unexpected Peace Offering

A fine nod to the poorly received Batman and Robin movie from 1997 and "The Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel are probably there regarding the fate of the trusted Wayne family butler Alfred Pennyworth. Pivotal elements from another popular storyline, "A Death in the Family" subtly played an influence for the ongoing Batman/Joker antagonism over the undisclosed fate of Jason Todd and unveiled new twist.

It appears that, Murphy took great inspiration from the popular TV show of 90's, Batman: The Animated Series and some classic characters like Baby Doll, Roxy Rocket and Veronica Vreeland appeared in the story, reimagined with almost same appearance resembling to the series. The sleek and edgy drawing style of Murphy was an overall refresher and was very well suited match to the dark tone of the story.

Super Sons – Parent Trap | Comics

Robin’s past finally revealed to Superboy in a meeting with Talia al Ghul, before Kid Amazo returns to tear the Super Sons apart.

When his dad Superman leaves for a Justice League-level emergency and reporter mom Lois Lane goes Metropolis to investigate on an article for Daily Planet, young superhero Jon Kent is left behind with Damian Wayne, who lands on the school ground of West-Reeve by their trusted family butler Alfred Pennyworth.

Unbeknownst to Damian, his mother Talia al Ghul was secretly keeping an eye on him from nearby and meets him during lunch period only to freak out his friend Superboy by holding her own son with a sword on his throat. She asks him to come with her but Robin declines her offer after freeing himself.

The Super Sons heads to Gotham City and encounters members from League of Assassins before finding out that Talia was hired to kill Lois. Jon and Damian then start scouring through the city to find their mothers to stop one from killing the other.

The shot fired by Talia from a rooftop was timely deflected by Jon while Robin confronts his mother about this contract she took and engages her. Jon would come across Lois on street after taking down a few of the ninjas and Damian would force his mother to leave town after besting her in combat.

Two researchers working at LexCorp walks into a room for checking on inventory before Lex Luthor arrives only to discover that the synthetic suit made of Amazo Virus is missing from containment and as the Super Sons were planning for their patrolling schedule for the night on Fortress of Attitude, Kid Amazo suddenly breaks in.

Sending Robin to look for rebreathers, Superboy tackles their former enemy until the villain is hit by an escape pod of theirs. Together, they made an attempt to reach out to surface for seeking help but Jon is grabbed by the leg at the last minute and pulled underwater.

Before Damian could ran out of air, Cyborg came out of nowhere at his rescue and band together looking for Kid Amazo instead of taking him back home. An unconscious Jon is dragged by the suit to an oil rig and discloses how it escaped using Reggie Meyer.

Since the boy was in a weakened condition when bonded, there are high chances of him being dead right now, because his powers were burned out and now it needs an external energy source to feed on. To absorb organic power from new source, he has acquired Batman, Flash, Superman and Wonder Woman.

After draining the entire League, the suit wanted Jon as a host who could survive and filter it to power the armor. Though resistant, he couldn't free his father and friends or even last too long before help could arrive but when it did, he immediately freed himself from captivity.

Since the suit has tapped into the power of Flash, it started to give even Cyborg a hard time. With no chance to seemingly win against the villain, Robin eventually came up with a plan which involves Victor Stone losing to Kid Amazo as a part of gamble he planned.

Super Sons – Parent Trap

The new DC Comics monthly ongoing Super Sons comic-book series has completed its third story arc "Parent Trap" in issues # #13-16 and Annual #1. Series regular writer Peter Tomasi (Batman – Arkham Knight, Forever Evil – Arkham War) returned to complete the plot that apparently draws the ending for the series for now.

Group of artists consisting Carlo Barberi (Deadpool – Suicide Kings, Ororo – Before the Storm), Jorge Jiménez (Superman – The Final Days of Superman, Superman – Trials of the Super Sons) and Paul Pelletier (Fall of the Hulks, War of Kings) provided arts for the story. This arc was preceded by the events of "When I Grow Up" and "Planet of the Capes", which set up the premises.

The killer queen who used to run League of Assassins, Talia al Ghul pays a surprise visit to her son Damian with a contract to kill Lois Lane. However, the ongoing Leviathan civil war is what brought her here even though her intentions were never clarified at any point of the encounter (The Silencer – Code of Honor).

Then former Amazo Project came back to life next, looking for revenge by taking down the biggest players of world's greatest superhero team. Except for Aquaman and Green Lantern, almost every core-member of the Justice League showed up in the story, not to save the day but to be saved instead.

Damage – Out of Control | Comics

Ethan Avery signed up for Damage Project to serve his country not realizing he would be turned into a weapon of mass destruction.

During transportation, a hulking creature goes on a rampage by breaking out of a plane and head over to civilization. His immediate handler, Major Liggett informs his superior about this by referring it as Damage and tries to engage him in combat wearing an exo-suit, only to get thrashed around and rendered fully incapacitated.

Apparently, a member of United States Army named Ethan Avery has volunteered for an experimental program to serve, which gave him superpowers and turned him into an unstoppable behemoth called Damage. Avoiding locality, he goes into a secluded location for an hour-long countdown to end and then rest.

Operation overseer Colonel Marie Jonas came visiting the crash site of Stork-1 to have come face-to-face with Suicide Squad director Amanda Waller who came here to clear up her mess with her brand-new Task Force XL team. Elsewhere, Ethan has changes back to his human form after his hour of being a rage monster was over.

He later wakes up in a homeless shelter at Atlanta before going out to call his mother from a stranger's phone that was immediately tracked. Deadshot approached him in an alleyway before Parasite sneaked on him to absorb his power but collapsed almost immediately only for Giganta to intervene and slam him to the ground.

Though she momentarily thought that Damage has been taken care off but he tore her palms out. Harley Quinn didn't even made him flinch and nor did her teammates Akando or Solomon Grundy. It was for the timely arrival of Wonder Woman, Deadshot and Harley were bailed out from being smacked hard by their enraged rival.

Diana goes toe-to-toe and came to a realization that never had she ever fought a walking brutal beast like this before. When finally binding it with her Lasso of Truth, she discovers that there is a man inside the creature and Ethan received a brief vision of how he was transformed into a brute force of destruction by Colonel Jonas.

Just before he was about to pass out and transform back, Damage crushed her into a building and escaped. Atop from a nearby rooftop, Col. Marie was observing how her weapon of mass destruction decimated entire Suicide Squad in less than three minutes and now that Waller has failed, she calls in Mr. Leash for a hunter squad.

Ethan tried to hitch a ride to get to New Orleans but got offered a job by a trucker named Jorge Hernandez, who then sends him to his cousin José in Louisiana. Little did they know then that Poison Ivy already invaded that plantation area and took its workers hostage, forcing Ethan to change into his other but even that was not enough.

He ended up taken down by Ivy but came back for her after recovering and faced an army of angry apes led by Gorilla Grodd. His recent rampage near Louisiana has also caught attention of Swamp Thing, who came visiting this runaway hero.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman informs her friends in Justice League about her encounter with Damage, which seem to make Superman slightly curious and Batman decides to investigate further into its back-story to figure out who he is. Col. Jonas has been hunting his tail for some time to find out what is he planning to do next.

Damage – Out of Control

During events of "Dark Nights – Metal", Damage made his debut to lead a "New Age of Heroes" and later appeared in his own brand-new monthly ongoing series launched by DC Comics in 2018. Collecting first two action-packed stories from its second monthly run, "Out of Control" ran from issues #01-06 of the comic-book series.

It features writer Robert Venditti (Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps – Bottled Light, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps – Sinestro's Law). Artist Tony Daniel (Deathstroke – God Killer, Deathstroke – Gods of War) teamed up with fellow illustrators Cary Nord and Diogenes Neves for interior drawings as well as cover arts.

Going Brutal and Heavy

In attempt to introduce a Hulk-like character for DC Universe, Venditti pitted him against an extremely efficient version of Task Force X before setting a stand-off against Wonder Woman. Her fighting prowess and skills are put to test like never before and even possibly building a narrative to send Damage against members of Justice League.

Putting Poison Ivy into this mix was a little weird and Gorilla Grodd has literally served no great purpose whatsoever. Special appearance of Swamp Thing also seemed a bit forced and unnecessary for the story premise. More of Col. Jonas and her hired hunting party will most likely to be revealed in upcoming storyline "Scorched Earth".

Justice League – No Justice | Comics

Dark Nights: Metal has transformed the universe and awakens Godlike beings of destruction for Justice League to stop!

In space, the Green Lantern Corps has assembled all of their members, standing rallied together as they all look into a cosmic threat that can destroy everything. After the Justice League and rest of heroes took a stand against the creatures of Dark Multiverse, the aftermath of that fight left a crack in the Source Wall and the Universe is now broken.

Back on Earth, heroes and vigilantes are being attacked by an enemy force that overwhelms them and director Amanda Waller of Suicide Squad decides to initiate Protocol XI. The Justice League has been fighting Brainiac in Metropolis, who have them on his ropes. Superman somehow manages to get free and charge at his arch-enemy.

Instead of fighting Man of Steel, Vril Dox shows him a dystopian future where Earth has fallen to his rule and teams like Task Force X, The Titans and Teen Titans simply fails to stand against him while other League members get free. He tells Kal-El that he is not here to invade Earth but for the heroes and then all other heroes vanishes with a BOOM!

Beast Boy, Harley Quinn, Starfire and Zatanna wakes up inside a room inside Brainiac's Skull Ship shortly after they were abducted and now all of them are wearing different outfits. Harley finds a way out of the quarter and Damian Wayne was throwing his tantrum at Doctor Fate about finding the Coluan only to discover him standing behind.

Robin is baffled to see his father and his friends standing along with the biggest bad guy in the Universe, which even upsets Koriand'r. Realizing the growing tension in the room, Vril Dox clarifies his intention of seeking their help by holding onto Diana's Lasso of Truth.

He then warns them about four powerful cosmic Gods, Omega Titans who used to plant seeds of cosmic energy in many different worlds. Now that the Source Wall is broken, they came to Colu, the home planet of Brainiac and are about to consume it. He suggests them to group up in four teams, each embodying the energy of Omega Titan.

Throwing abducted heroes, anti-heroes and villains in the mix seem to be difficult as they are unwilling to work with each other as a team because of their past history. However, Brainiac stopped them for now by reminding the bigger issue at hand.

Batman, Beast Boy, Deathstroke, Lex Luthor and Lobo forms Team Entropy while Team Mystery consists of Martian Manhunter, Sinestro, Starfire, Starro and Superman. Atom, Cyborg, Flash, Harley Quinn and Robin assembled Team Wisdom and Team Wonder is founded by Doctor Fate, Etrigan, Raven, Wonder Woman and Zatanna.

Meanwhile, Amanda Waller assembled Task Force XI with the most powerful psychics in the world to hack the brain of the Coluan conqueror. Upon reaching Colu, they see the destroyer of worlds standing tall on the planet and ready to consume it. Vril Dox assumes command and reminding them if they cannot stop the titan here, it will attack Earth next.

Before he could guide them with his plan, he feels excruciating pain in his brain as Waller's telepaths have breached it and then it explodes, leaving his assembled crew to fight alone. The inhabitants of Colu thought them to be minions sent by Brainiac and faced by protocol droids before finding the Tree of Wisdom the titan came after.

Batman suggests that four teams should go after four energy trees and reform them but the dilemma of leadership strikes again until Luthor came to voice his reason and convinced everyone to follow Brainiac's original plan to save two worlds. The Trinity and other League members agreed to this as well except Damian Wayne.

Back on Earth, Waller heads to the Arctic Circle where she is confronted by Green Arrow, who is looking for his friends in the Justice League. She reveals what Vril Dox intended and how he has put Earth next on the menu for ancient Space Gods to devour after blackmailing everyone into cooperating with him to save his own planet.

Since there is no one else left to fight because Brainiac has put the remaining members from the main four teams into stasis, Oliver Queen offers to help Waller to save the world. Together, these unlikely allies team up to dig up Earth's dormant cosmic seed.

In Colu, all four teams struggle to power up the energy trees and fights their way through various obstacles to eventually come face to face with Brainiac 2.0. In the mean time, Amanda Waller realizes by killing Vril Dox, she has doomed Earth as he had some sort of fail-safe hidden within the seed and all the can do now is pray to God.

"Imperious Lex" collects issues #33-36 and #39-41 from fourth ongoing volume of Superman and features two separate stories. Entire Kent family had to take a tour to one of the most unpleasant quadrant of entire galaxy; Apokolips to save it from a raging civil war when Lex Luthor dragged them into a mess of his creating.

After he took up the mantle of Man of Steel to become a savior of Metropolis, he met with skepticism from everyone but he worked with Big Blue to earn his trust and built a working system by putting aside their differences. Whatever trust they had was gone because of his most recent actions that jeopardized Clark's personal life.

Lois Lane has temporarily joined Female Furies during her stay there and Superboy had the chance to fight alongside his father more than once. His adventure with Damian Wayne AKA Robin as Super Sons is also referenced earlier. Further adventure of this iconic father-son duo would be explored up next in "Bizarroverse" arc.
