Invincible Iron Man – Fear Itself | Comics
After being released by the Red Skull’s daughter, The Serpent, a god of Asgard culminates "The American Blitzkrieg" era, causing a massive spread of fear around Earth. The Serpent also summoned seven divine hammers on Earth that transformed a group of former super-villains and heroes alike into the lieutenant of his cause, dubbed as The Worthy. Just like the few other super villains, Paul Duval AKA The Grey Gargoyle has turned into one of the Worthies, now calling himself as Mokk; breaker of faith. Now with his newly found unmatched powers, Mokk reaches to the city of lights, Paris and after reaching there, he is doing what he does best, turning people into stone.

The ultimate man of science Tony Stark heads to Paris on news of rampage there caused by Mokk and to face him as Invincible Iron Man. But with horror, he sees the entire city is turned into stone by Mokk with his power as Grey Gargoyle. A shocked Iron Man attacked Mokk with no actual success while Tony kept hitting him hard and it seems like Mokk was expecting a better fight from him. Tony’s rival Detroit Steel tried to stop Mokk’s rampage with the cost of his own life. Tony sees no apparent way to fight the mystically powered Worthies but to apply the same manner on them. So, he asks Odin Allfather’s help and blessings to the battlefield. Despite all of this, he also got back to his old drinking habit and if he can get a hold of that, he have to worry about the mischievous Smoke Elves sent by The Serpent.

Fear Itself | Comics
The Red Skull and his followers performed a ritual of blood-sacrifice decades ago, during World War II, to resurrect the Asgardian god of fear, The Serpent. His ritual caused the Hammer of Skadi to fall on Earth but even after locating the hammer, he was unable to lift it. In recent days Red Skull's daughter Sin finds it and becomes The Skadi, Herald of the Serpent upon lifting it. The Serpent is freed from his underwater imprisonment and seven divine hammers falls on Earth's various locations. Tony Stark offers help from his company, Stark Resilient to re-construct Asgard, after the demolition caused in "Siege" but on Serpent's return, Odin draws back his men from Earth.

The Serpent actually is Odin's brother Cul, who was defeated by him ages ago for his corrupt rule after their father's death. Soon those seven divine hammers come into contact with the villain Absorbing Man, Attuma, Grey Gargoyle, Hulk, Juggernaut, Titania and The Thing of the Fantastic Four, turning them into Serpent's generals. With the newly gained divine power and in its mystic influence, they start creating havoc around the globe on behalf of their Dark Master. The Avengers and Thor opposes The Skadi and the other generals of The Serpent with everything they got but even after everyone’s best effort, The Serpent is not stalled a bit. Spider-Man, Black Widow, Iron Fist, Wolverine, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Red She-Hulk and Doctor Strange are assembled to make a final stand against The Serpent and his generals.

Avengers – Next Avengers | Comics

Commander Steve Rogers assembled The Avengers once again when Kang The Conqueror has come crushing the party from the future to seek help!

In a distant future, villainous Immortus falls onto his knees before five shadowy figures and pleading how he was there at their birth and will be present to witness them dying. Once regarded as Master of Time, he is killed by a bolt of lightning.

To assemble all heroes and re-form The Avengers once again after the fall of Norman Osborn and his Dark Avengers following their Siege on Asgard, Captain Steve Rogers rallies together a group of heroes to become a band of heroes the world needs right now. All except Wonder Man does not agree to his idea and thinks of it as a big mistake.

Nevertheless, Commander Steve Rogers went on to recruit his old friend Bucky Barnes and former Winter Soldier as the new Captain America, along with long-time teammate Hawkeye, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Thor and Wolverine for a brand-new team of the Earth's mightiest heroes with former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Maria Hill as its leader.

Other members joining the party includes Beast, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, Hulkling, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Justice, Kate Bishop, Luke Cage, Mockingbird, Ms. Marvel, Patriot, Speed, Stature, Tigra, Vision, War Machine, Wasp and Wiccan with some representing other superhero teams like New Avengers, X-Men and Young Avengers respectively.

Suddenly, Kang the Conqueror arrives from future to alert them of a threat but before he even finishes announcing his arrival, Odinson quickly blasts him off the tower. To make them listen to him, Kang shows them a doomsday device that Tony Stark will build in near future that is capable of mass destruction and everyone stops immediately.

Then he explains, in a future timeline, where Ultron has ruled all by destroying all heroes and establishing his own utopia, only for the children of the Avengers to rise up to its tyrannical rule and then took over his empire but without any guidance, these gifted youngsters have ushered such ruthlessness that needs to be stopped before it's too late.

Trying to stop Ultron before the children could do so with different allies and weapons, only to fail many times over; Kang came seeking help from The Avengers but knowing they probably wouldn't trust him, leaves them to find their own way to future and told them that they would know how to look into future when their team is complete.

Wolverine suggests that he know someone who can help them with unique expertise of dimensional travel. So, they all pay a visit to Noh-Varr AKA Protector who was busy tussling with Titanium Man. Tony asks him to build a time machine so that they can go to future and stop their future offspring from being oppressing jerks.

In Avengers Tower, Noh-Varr finishes making the device and it starts projecting visions of possible futures, they see Immortus being executed by their children, the Next Avengers. Before that timestream collapses, they see an elderly Hulk, who calls himself Maestro and as they prepare to travel to future, Wonder Man comes crushing.

While his old friends are in awe seeing him getting jumpy, he explains how the superhero Civil War, Secret Invasion of the Skrulls and Osborn's Dark Reign were all the result of their own reckless actions over the years, which is why they should disband themselves for the collective good of everyone before getting blasted off by Marvel Boy.

Tony asks Noh to rebuild his machine and then a future version of Apocalypse appears through timestream with his four horsemen. Chaos breaks in all of a sudden but the crowd shortly realizes that the Eternal Mutant is here because time is broken. Iron Man tries to talk to En Sabah Nur but he and his Horsemen are then pulled to elsewhere.

Maria Hill suggests Captain America, Iron Man, Marvel Boy and Wolverine head to their apocalyptic future. She then sends Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and Thor to New York City to cross paths with Killraven and Devil Dinosaur. Followed by an invasion of Martians, even the mighty cosmic devourer Galactus makes a surprise appearance.

Two of the greatest comics talent of the comic-book industry, writer Brian Michael Bendis (Age of Ultron, Avengers Disassembled) and artist John Romita Jr. (Avengers Vs. X-Men, World War Hulk) teamed up in 2010 for Marvel Comics to revamp one of the greatest superhero team in comics, The Avengers with a brand-new ongoing series.

Even though the first issue of the story rallied up a huge roster of superheroes together, a smaller group of them actually got involved into plot. Many of the assembled members from New Avengers, X-Men and Young Avengers team would not even appear to rest of the book but most probably reserved for near future appearances.

"Next Avengers" takes place on the fourth monthly ongoing volume Avengers comic series, collecting issues #01-06. Bendis sets up a premise on future crisis where Kang the Conqueror is troubled with next generation of young heroes and Ultron has finally succeeded in destroying all life-forms by crushing every resistance on his maniacal way.

It eventually paved the way for a new Heroic Age in Marvel Universe and would be continued with a new arc titled "Infinity Quest" up next where the team will tackle a threat greater than what they have already dealt with in a future ruined by their children and a conflict of interest among its members regarding long-kept dark secrets.
