Al Simmons was a former member of U.S. Marine Crops, also worked with the C.I.A. as a special agent trained for black ops. He was brutally murdered by his fellow agent in a twisted conspiracy while in the line of duty. Just because he was leading the life of an assassin in earth, he was sent straight to Hell upon death. One of the prime ruler of Hell, only known as Malebolgia offers him to join his cause, a war against Heaven and become his appointed herald, the Hellspawn. To see his widowed wife Wanda Blake for one last time, Simmons struck the deal with the devil at a cost that he wasn't completely aware of. With a burnt and disfigured appearance he returns to earth with his new super powers from Hell.

With his newly gained uncanny super-powers, Al Simmons desperately tries to re-construct his appearance many times but is unable to do so with perfection. Also he completely shatters emotionally when he come to know that five years have already passed since he had died and his beloved wife Wanda has since moved on with his best friend Terry Fitzgerald in Al's long time absence. Soon, he meets a clown like demon called The Violator who happens to be one of Malebolgia's evil lieutenants and the clown suddenly engages in a fierce battle with Spawn. Seeing this nonsense conflict, Malebolgia steps in to stop them from tearing each other and with no one left there is to care for, Al is now doubtful about his own destiny. He then goes after a psychotic child murderer who escaped the grasp of justice in plain sight and still at large.

Spawn – Beginnings

Spawn – Beginnings is a five part storyline telling the origin story of the superhero Spawn, collecting issue #01-05. Artist Todd McFarlane (Amazing Spider-Man, Image United) acted as both writer and penciler for the story. It was almost twenty years ago when McFarlance created this best selling ongoing comics series from Image Comics. The issues related to this story were dedicated to the comic book legends like Jack Kirby (Challengers of the Unknown, New Gods), Steve Ditko, Joe Shuster and Will Eisner respectively. The storyline is followed by the second storyline of the series titled "Spawn – Dark Discoveries".

During the time of World War II, the infamously fabled Russian psychic Grigori Rasputin were recruited in a secret doomsday project by the Nazis that will bring up the end of the world and ensure their victory in the final battle. Though Rasputin was well aware of Hitler’s upcoming fate, he still decides to take the resources at hand for his own purpose to summon his masters, the mystical savage beasts called the Ogdru Jahad on Earth.

However, what he ended up transporting via the portal was only a red-skinned half-demonic humanoid boy who was later found by an American elite rescue troops and he was immediately dubbed “Hellboy” by a young paranormal official named Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who adopted him as his own son afterwards. Even though, Rasputin’s effort of creating a miracle was seemingly laid waste but he still remained in shadows for a long time. He was waiting for the right time to strike back at the world and remained dormant with his destructive purpose withing him.

After passing fifty years of that event, the grown up Hellboy is working in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in New York, where he works along with fellow agent Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien as a paranormal investigator. When a much older Bruttenholm was telling him about the event of his origin, the place is then suddenly swarmed with frogs and a huge one chase and kills Bruttenholm, leaving markings around him, this sets Hellboy to reveal the mysterious secret behind these malevolent scenes.

Created by writer/artist Mike Mignola (Cosmic Odyssey, Lobster Johnson), Hellboy is a fictional superhero from Dark Horse Comics. Hellboy – Seed of Destruction is a four part limited series that is plotted by John Byrne (Jack Kirby's Fourth World, John Byrne’s Next Men) and Mike Mignola, with the former also serving as the artist for the book.

The Ogdru Jahad Unleashed

The story won Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album and Best Writer/Artist for Mike Mignola, as well as served as the main plotline for the 2004 live-action Hellboy movie starring actor Ron Perlman in the titular role. Te aftermath of the book is continued in another limited series, Wake the Devil, released on 1996.

Avengers/X-Men – Bloodties | Comics

Magneto is out of the commission since Professor Charles Xavier has thwarted his evil plan by mind wiping him on Avalon (in Fatal Attractions). And now, one of his former aide Fabian Cortez has now branded himself as "Head of the State" of the island nation Genosha while he terrorizes people over there like a mad tyrant.

He also takes The Acolytes as his own team and abducts Magneto's granddaughter Luna, the human child of Quicksilver and The Inhuman, Crystal with hopes that someone from the family will eventually appear to save her. Getting concerned by Cortez's action on Genosha, Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. approaches The Avengers to look into the matter immediately.

Meanwhile, Professor X and his team of X-Men fly to Genosha on their own to confront Fabian Cortez about this matter, who is seen holding Luna in his lap. He wishes to end Luna's life as a punishment to Quicksilver for not following his father's footsteps and as to Luna, who is born a mere human without any kind of mutant power, disgracing Magneto's mutant bloodline.

Luna's mother Crystal also reaches to Genosha to retrieve her daughter as an Avenger. Her husband Pietro Maximoff, A.K.A. Quicksilver also lands on Genosha with the X-Men at his side. Former X-Man, Colossus is now confused with his siding with The Acolytes to see the violent ways of the maniacal Fabian Cortez in the absence of Magneto. To make this moment even worse than it is now, Magneto's self-proclaimed heir Exodus arrives with a murderous intention.

A young Professor Trevor Bruttenholm of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.), decides to adopt and raise this devilish-looking boy after naming him “Hellboy”. By the time he was eight, the boy joined the Bureau as a paranormal investigator and through Bruttenholm's guidance he soon becomes an occult expert with extensive knowledge on that particular subject.

Though he grew up only a little on age but got an appearance of a full-grown middle-aged man with two horns on top of his forehead and a red skin. Despite having a demonic origin, he actually cares for the humans. Being the son of the demon Azzael, he possess super strength as well as nearly limitless endurance and the invulnerable massive forearm made from red stone, called the "Right Hand of Doom".

In his years as an active agent for the Bureau, he worked on cases of possession, haunting, exorcism, enchantments and fought creatures like Vampires, Werewolves and other mystical monsters as well. Following many of his investigative missions, he is often aided by his fellow teammate Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, Johann Kraus and B.P.R.D.'s finest field agents.

Wade Wilson takes the alias of Deadpool to pursue a mercenary career, is also known as the merc with a mouth for being such a talker and currently he is fighting off many other mercenaries who actually came looking for him in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He surprise attacks them to take a couple of them down while making fun of them and fighting them off; eventually taking down every last one of them with efficiency. Deadpool meets his tech-guy cum weapons dealer Weasel in his safe-house and wants to know about his girlfriend Copycat. Deadpool encounters his former fellow Weapon X operative Garrison Kane who has become a cyborg now and they both fight each other for information.

Kane also reveals that Deadpool's old nemesis Gregory Terraerton AKA Slayback has been found alive and currently is looking for Deadpool to kill him. Meanwhile, the unstoppable mutant super-villain Juggernaut breaks into a secret facility for genetic research somewhere in France, looking for his uncle Black Tom Cassidy. A man named Louis Banque greets him and leads him to the room where his uncle is kept. He is surprised to see Black Tom in a way he never expected. A newly patched-up Black Tom and Juggernaut team up and attacks Deadpool to obtain a briefcase he previously stole from Mr. Gezdbadah earlier that holds valuable information of everyone's interest and with Deadpool around, it never happens in a typical way. It has to be very very awkward and a bit weird at the same time for everyone around him.

Deadpool – The Circle Chase is the first ever Deadpool title released by Marvel Comics. This four part bullet riddled limited series was written by Fabian Nicieza (Alpha Flight, New Warriors), who co-created the character with artist Rob Liefeld (Onslaught Reborn, X-Force) and the pencil works were done by the awesome Joe Madureira (Astonishing X-Men, Inhuman – Genesis). This limited series is one of Madureira's early works on Marvel that gave his work a great recognition to his fans. Though the series was featuring Deadpool, but the other supporting characters have seemed to got a bit more attention in the story than they should.

Fatal Attractions | Comics

Fabian Cortez, the new leader of The Acolytes, attacks on the headquarters of “Project: Wideawake”, a recently developed sentinel program funded by the government at Camp Hayden. The government sponsored mutant super team of X-Factor intervenes and engages The Acolytes there. During the battle between these two teams, Quicksilver is approached by Cortez to be the new leader of the Acolytes as Magneto's rightful heir, to which Quicksilver declines.

X-Men – Fatal Attractions | Comics

Meanwhile, Exodus shows up to Cable's X-Force team to offer them all sanctuary from a mysterious greater power. Exodus in fact came to offer them shelter to Avalon, which was Cable's former headquarter Graymalkin in the past and the mysterious person with greater power is none other than a previously thought-dead Magneto himself, who has taken over the base and upgraded it with Shi'ar technology. Before teleporting with X-Force from Avalon, Cable nearly escapes death from the hands of the mutant master of magnetism.

Along with his team of Acolytes, Magneto came to meet the X-Men at Westchester during the funeral for Colossus' sister Illyana Rasputin, who died of the Legacy Virus that has crippled the entire mutant community for some time. After a brief fight between the X-Men and the Acolytes, Colossus switched his alliance with Magneto as he has lost his faith in the ways of Xavier and the X-Men.

Professor Xavier led the team of Jean Grey, Gambit, Quicksilver, Rogue and Wolverine to Avalon after Magneto unleashes an electromagnetic pulse causing havoc to Earth's entire electrical system, as an answer to "Magneto Protocols" by UN. After getting stabbed by Wolverine in battle, an enraged Magneto forcibly tore out the Adamantium out of Wolverine's body that led him to a near death experience as he was unable to heal himself from major injuries.

This sudden act of violence made Professor X snap and he mind-wipes Magneto in retaliation, leaving him into a vegetative state on Avalon. The X-Men took Wolverine back to their base for treatment as he was being unable to regenerate himself and Colossus left behind to look after Magneto.

The story arc continues in the "Avengers/X-Men – Bloodties" crossover and is the base plot that later caused the historical "Onslaught Saga", which changed the entire landscape of the Marvel Universe forever.
