Manji decides to take care of her and then he encounters Yaobikuni, an 800 years old mysterious nun who gave him kessen-chu, the sacred bloodworms that will render him ageless and immune to lethal injuries of any sort. If he even loses a limb, the worms will help him re-attach it or regrow him a new one. Because of his actions against Hatamoto, his sister was also killed as retaliation and to get rid of his immortality he made a pact with the nun that he would kill 1000 evil men in exchange for the removal of kessen-chu from his bloodstream.

Soon, he encounters a young girl named Asano Rin, the only remaining survivor of the infamous Ittō-ryū massacre by its leader Kagehisa Anotsu and vows revenge on him for killing her entire family. Though Manji looked her up as his younger sister and decided to help her fulfill her destiny, Rin eventually develops feelings for him while trying to get her revenge alongside the quest Manji is set for.

When he reaches to the shore, Hulk turns into Banner and is rescued by two stranger Ripley and Green. They all ran for their life after having been chased by a monster out of nowhere. Just about when they thought they are safe after moving to a corner, the Gray Hulk appears and threatened to smash them all. Upon standing on his feet, Dr. Bruce Banner quickly turns into the Hulk again to fight back and engages with his old incarnation.

Many punches are exchanged between these gamma-powered goliath till one fell. When Gray Hulk is subdued by the green Hulk, it turned out to be an imposter posed by a Mindless One. As this takes place, someone from a place unknown is keenly watching over the fight. While Hulk was trying to figure out what is going on, the legendary Fin Fang Foom enters the scene. As he tried to obliterate the Hulk after he refused to kneel before the Dragon Lord, Hulk taught him a good lesson he would remember for some time.

Ripley and Gwen are then approached by General “Thunderbolt” Ross on the other side of the jungle who led them to a secret military base called Project Smash in this mysterious Monster Island. Meanwhile, in a flashback sequence, a younger Bruce Banner is seen to have trouble in his school life and he is talking to his imaginary friend Hulk, who suggests him to smash all the puny humans. He gets beat up for standing up for a girl, his school taechers are worried for him and his abusive father tries to reach out to him.

General Ross was taking Ripley and Gwen to the facility but then gets attacked by a ferocious two-headed dog. As the situation was not crazy enough, the feral X-Man with a nasty temper shows up to slice and dice things up and so does a certain Conqueror. Or maybe someone else is responsible for the whole show.

Harshel expresses his gratitude to Rick for an opportunity to start a new life here by welcoming his family to prison and apologizes for angrily kicking him out of his farm earlier. Later that night, they all learn that people can still get turned after death even if they are not bitten by zombies from a failed suicidal attempt by Chris and Julie.

This incident reminds Rick of taking care of an unfinished business and he heads to their former campsite location. Wandering around inside, Glenn and Maggie finds barber shop and gets naughty before giving each other a haircut. Seeing them, both Susie and Rachel insisted for a haircut as well so, Maggie took them to barber shop.

Tyreese decided to clean up gym are with Andrea, Billy Greene and Glenn with a plan to stick together as a group but he soon gets swarmed by a herd of Walkers, which have his friends assume his demise and leave quickly. Harshel came looking for the twins only to open up door of barber shop to see their decapitated heads in horror.

Shortly afterwards, Maggie came to check in on her father and discovers him around a bloody mess of her twin sisters. Rick came back to prison a day after the incident and Dale updates him on all recent events.

Glenn then informs him about how Tryeese went into a suicide run in gym and they had to leave him behind as he got swarmed. He goes to talk to Dexter about whether or not he killed the girls but he claims to be innocent in this case. He suggests that Rick might as well look within his group for a murderer instead of them.

When Dead Comes Knocking

Collecting issues #13-18 from titular series, entirety of the story has served as primary inspiration for early episodes of Season 03 of The Walking Dead live-action TV series aired on AMC. Even though source material from comics has inspired TWD in beginning, it starts to differentiate too much from roots as they keep progressing.

In a six-issue tale, survivors have faced deaths of some beloved and started to realize larger threats other than ravenous zombies lurking among them. Driving all characters towards another major arc, "Safety Behind Bars" is following tragic events of "Miles Behind Us" from earlier and continues in "The Heart's Desire" up next.
