Amazing Spider-Man – Lifetime Achievement | Comics

J. Jonah Jameson is about to receive lifetime achievement award from Mayor Wilson Fisk and Spider-Man had to come to his rescue.

During his time at Daily Bugle as its editor in chief, J. Jonah Jameson had been publishing one hit-piece after another claiming Spider-Man to be a public menace to raise awareness, never knowing that one of his employee and young freelance photographer Peter Parker was actually the man behind that mask he hated for so long.

Most recently, Parker made a huge revelation of his identity to Jonah and entrusted him with responsibility of its secrecy. It made things awkward for both of them but JJJ is trying hard to make up for his mess. Although people are pretty skeptical about his abrupt change of stance on Spidey but Jameson is adamant that they all owe him.

Next thing he knows, Jameson received an invitation from Mayor Wilson Fisk to receive a lifetime achievement award from their mutual friend Spider-Man, which Peter saw him announcing on TV. He showed up at Century Club in a Limo and is greeted by Spidey but due to years of habit, started shouting at him immediately.

Parker tries to reason with him about not showing up at Fisk's party because of his criminal past but JJ believes that Parker owes him this, claiming Jonah has been trying to repair his reputation but Pete reminds him that Jameson himself has ruined it. Seeing no apparent way of convincing Webhead, he walks alone to the party.

The Enforcers showed up out of nowhere to kidnap Jonah and engage in a brawl with Wall-Crawler. Having no luck at faring against him, these old-school mobsters try to shoot Jameson only for Spidey trying to save him next and get beaten. Waking up after a while, they find themselves among the company of Mac Gargan AKA Scorpion.

A mystery voice from unknown brought J. Jonah Jameson here to tell him his own story and starts projecting events from his life. It shows how he made Spider-Man a sworn enemy to how his insane obsession to take him down eventually led to Gargan being subjected to experiment, birth of Human Fly and creation of Spider-Slayer.

Then he met his second wife Marla and his father but they all died including Frederick Foswell, fellow Daily Bugle reporter and friend turned crime boss named Big Man. However, he Jameson turned out to be a traitor when he finally become pro-Spider-Man after year of rallying people into fight against "Webbed Menace", turning his back.

To punish him for his alliance with Web-Slinger, his unforeseen enemy unleashes Mac Gargan, Human Flies and a Spider-Slayer. Among a bunch of clones and LMDs, only Scorpion was the real deal and with a little help from JJJ, they managed to defeat them all until a giant-sized version of Big Man breaks in to crush them for good.

A ghost of his past came back to haunt him for stance he took lately but things are resolved over as he worked with Spider-Man. Meanwhile, a beaten up Gargan got his payday cancelled moments before he is kidnapped by Black Ant and Taskmaster. He wakes up to find himself captive alongside with Cobra, Tarantula, Stegron and Vulture in a cell.

Following his association with Big Man earlier, assassin-for-hire Arcade lost a huge sum of money and then Kraven the Hunter came to Arcade Industries with a business proposition. Peter and Mary Jane joined Dr. Curt Connors and his family for lunch when May Parker got caught between a Rhino chase by hired mercenaries.

Amazing Spider-Man – Lifetime Achievement

Marvel Comics
hired writer Nick Spencer (Ant-Man – Second-Chance Man, Doctor Strange – Damnation) on board to take Amazing Spider-Man back into his roots. Assisting him on his third consequent run will be artists Chris Bachalo (Captain America – Homeland, Dark Reign – The Sinister Spider-Man) and Ryan Ottley (Haunt, Invincible).

After getting back to his regular superhero business in "Back to Basics" storyline and then opposing Odessa Drake leading a newly reformed Thieves Guild by teaming up with his former ally Black Cat in "Friends and Foes", Spidey is slowly approaching toward a new challenge set up by an old foe while a new one closely watches his every move.

Peter Parker revealing his secret identity of being Spider-Man to J. Jonah Jameson is referenced through and through (Peter Parker – The Spectacular Spider-Man – Into The Twilight) and build premise of their latest misadventure. Hints of "The Clone Conspiracy" helped reflect on how Curt Connors has reunited with his formerly deceased family.

Webhead also faces Fancy Dan, Montana and Ox returning as The Enforcers from his early days of crime-fighting. A face-off between former Daily Bugle publisher, J. Jonah Jameson and current mayor of New York, Wilson Fisk was really unexpected. "Lifetime Achievement" collects issues #11-15 from current run and leads directly to "Hunted".

He started to taunt Nightmare at his very realm about not being able to keep him for long but is pulled again from Dimension of Dreams to another location. This time, Strange discovers himself in Hell and found his abductor to be The Devil's Daughter, Satana Hellstrom, who wants to make him go through his own personal hell since now she got her very own all-new, all-different Hell.

The current story arc titled "Blood In The Aether" is comprised of issues #11-16 from the fourth volume of publication of the monthly series. The new series finally came in full-circle as a wide array of Doctor Strange's rogues' gallery made appearance with the presence of his trusty aide Wong and librarian Zelma Stanton, who is growing into her own role.

Dine In Hell

A band of his enemies consisting of Baron Mordo, Dormammu, Mister Misery, Nightmare, Satana Hellstrom and The Orb came after Doctor Strange at a time when he is the weakest and almost left without any magic left in him. This all-too suspenseful tale eventually came to an end with a much desirable conclusion and started trail of a new one as well.

With the worldwide hype of the upcoming live-action Doctor Strange (2016) movie, Marvel Comics also decided to shake the mystical realms of magic with Sorcerer Supreme for the audience a bit on the pages of comic-books and there are a few references to the film as well.

A dimension which’s inhabitants used to worship the ancient being known as Shuma-Gorath as a deity, sent it's worshiping Blood Monks after a child who was promised to him. These people were accused of heresy for practicing science and not devoting themselves to magic. The boys' parents gave up their life to ensure that the boy's escapes along with a group of his created Eyebots. As the Impirikul has finally reached Earth in search for Sorcerer Supreme of this dimension, they are hit with Atlantian Black Magic and stunned for a while. Doctor Strange notes that The Mighty Thor is weeping above the clouds for no reason he can remember of and a Ghost Rider is probably screaming somewhere as the world of magic gone cuckoo. The Impirikul attempts to enter the Sanctum but they all got caught up by the mystical defenses of the house itself. Strange was barely able to even hold him off against the powerful Imperator on the very doorstep of Sanctum Sanctorum taking non-stop blows from the attacker until he finally faded.

Then when they were all lined up for execution in front of Sanctum, his old pal Monako shows up to free them all and teleport them away before meeting his impending fate. Strange and his allies goes for a quest to find every last piece of magic around the world for a last stand against the Impirikul. While making a run for salvaging whatever scrap of magic scattered around the globe, Strange is hounded by the Witchfinder Wolves of Impirikul. His companion for the road Médico Místico, Scarlet Witch and Talisman extracted from the situation before taking care of the Wolves.

In the mean time, Wong makes a quick rescue of Zelma from the Sanctum and the Eyebots have unknowingly unleashed a monster hidden in the cellar constructed from pain and sufferings of Stephen Strange that have the power to unleash doom on the Impirikul. Doctor Strange and his friends eventually showed up to change the tide of the battle with all the mystical relics they've gathered but even if Strange ever manages to somehow beat them, can he restore the balance of magic in the world that has been lost?

The supernatural lore of Marvel Comics got a new villain and he is currently after every other magic-wielder; especially Doctor Strange. So, comic-book writer Jason Aaron (Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine, Original Sin) and artist extraordinaire Chris Bachalo (Generation X, Steampunk) is having quite an impressive run on the Doctor Strange’s ongoing series which started with ‘The Way of the Weird’ and now has reached to "The Last Days of Magic". Illustrator Leonardo Romero also served as penciller for the tie-in issue, also written by Aaron. Gerry Duggan and Scott Koblish collaborated on the tie-in that features a certain Merc with a Mouth; Deadpool for some reason we are not sure about yet.

Last Protectors of Magic

As per with the recent release of the 2016’s live-action Doctor Strange film, Marvel took this initiative to re-define the mystic elements of its large fictional universe. Considering that, they are getting pretty good results as in a new chapter started with its very own background and can leave out trails to create more expanding arcs or crossover from it. Plus, the continuation of other Marvel characters related to magic from The Avengers or X-Men appearing and teaming up with the Sorcerer Supreme himself to save the world against a menacing brand-new antagonist was an extra delight for the fans.

Rise of The Empirikul

Basically "The Way of the Weird" storyline doesn’t end here; it actually finishes with a cliffhanger to any final outcome and serves as a starting point of an end. That means, the ending point of this arc is a sort of prologue for what is about to come for the heroes wielding mystical powers and fighting supernatural threat. Not any known enemy that they have ever faced before is coming after them. Instead, someone with a deeply seeded vendetta against the magicians will fight them with the strength of science.
