Catwoman | Comics

A costumed persona who has shades of gray on her ledger as well have fought crimes on many occasion, Selina Kyle is the face behind the mask of Catwoman. Initially, she used to go by the name "The Cat" and had no special costume or mask designed to hide her identity until she got a reputation of her own. Though her costumed endeavors begin as jewelry thief and an enemy to The Dark Knight, she took a liking to crime-fighting and also became part of the Batman-Family over time.

Year One
Selina grew up with a troubled childhood and both of her parents died tragically, leaving her at the Sprang Hall Juvenile Detention Center. She had a brief history of fighting Bruce Wayne on his early year of vigilantism when he came to the East End of Gotham posing as a drifter. She was speculated as a prostitute but she was only trying to protect an underage teen named Holly Robinson from her pimp. To see Batman in action, Selina was greatly inspired to become Catwoman and took Holly with her.

Her Sister’s Keeper

In her apartment at East End, she was visited by Stan who tries to forcibly make her wear a catsuit for a client. She calls to a number that Flannery gave her earlier and the recipient turned out to be Ted Grant AKA Wildcat, one of the original members of Justice Society of America. With his help, she learns to fight and finally takes a stand for her own from then on.

The Long Halloween
A reformed Selina Kyle met Bruce Wayne for the first time at a wedding party of Falcone Crime Family. She couldn't help but notice that they two are a great match, yet had to leave the date as she was about to rob Carmine Falcone. When she realized that Poison Ivy was mind-controlling Bruce, she jumped in to rescue him. Though she helped Batman fight Scarecrow and Mad Hatter, she joined the gang of costumed freaks assembled by Two-Face afterwards. Due to her repeated conflicting actions, Batman was unable to determine her true allegiance.

When in Rome
The previous misadventures with the Falcone Crime Family led her to believe that she is the illegitimate daughter of Carmine Falcone. So, she gave chase to this lead in Rome and took The Riddler along for helping her solve the mystery. During this time, she was having constant nightmares about Batman, Carmine Falcone, The Joker and Two-Face showing up in her dreams. In Rome, they are met by Italy's best hitman The Blonde on behalf of Don Fillipe Verinni. Soon, she finds out that she is in deep water of a conspiracy by Don's son Guillermo Verinni and The Riddler himself.

Dark Victory
With her investigation back in Rome proving to be futile, Catwoman has returned to Gotham with the knowledge that Carmine Falcone might have been her father. Selina aids Batman in fighting a couple of armed gangsters and then reveals a plan by the Falcones to kill Harvey Dent. She attends the Thanksgiving dinner with Alfred and Bruce at Wayne Manor, then she was being stood up by Bruce just like his every other date. While she was away, Batman finds a new sidekick in Robin and together they became the crime-fighting dynamic duo.

Knightfall
A new and powerful enemy for Batman, who calls himself Bane arrives at Gotham and eventually broke the Bat. He offered Catwoman to work for her and upon her refusal; he tried to learn about her true identity. Even after concealing her name under a couple of aliases, she was sold out by Leopold and her apartment was blown off. She even faced Jean-Paul Valley when he became the new Batman who defeated Bane and chased her for trying to steak containers of dangerous nerve gas but she was able to figure out he was not the real deal.

Contagion
Selina was hired by Penguin to locate Kendall Stuart in the midst of a chaos when Order of St. Dumas tries to plague Gotham City. She reluctantly teamed-up with Azrael and Robin to find out the survivor but he was killed at the last moment. Then they went after another man named Fong, who was crazy enough to kill himself. She then goes after a final survivor who is a college student named Leanore We but then learns that the survivor's blood cannot actually produce an antidote and she cannot get paid since Babylon is blown up.

Trail of the Catwoman
Following her long disappearance many thought Catwoman to be dead and just to be sure, Mayor Daniel Dickerson hires private detective Slam Bradley to find out what really happened. Slam starts digging up old records that had no valuable information and one of his lead even suggested that Catwoman was responsible for the murder of a woman named Selina Kyle. He finds an unrecognizable corpse in her coffin and then he is abducted by a mob who previously hired Catwoman to kill Kyle. His bumping into Selina's ex-boyfriend Bruce Wayne and Batman did no help either till he meets Selina herself and decides to drop the case.

Hush
As Batman was busy apprehending Killer Croc for a kidnapping case, Catwoman stole the ten million dollars ransom money and took it to Poison Ivy. She then realizes that she was being mind-controlled by Ivy and when Selina goes looking for her, she encounters an enraged Croc looking for his money who was about to kill her. It was only for the timely arrival of Batman; she survives the attack and then assists him to go find Ivy on Metropolis. The duo managed to withstand the power of a mind-controlled Superman and even take down Ivy for good.

They two head back to Gotham after this little adventure and then go to attend an opera in their civilian guise. There, Harley Quinn showed up to rob everyone blind and when Selina decided to face her as Catwoman, she is shot and gravely wounded by Harley. Batman gives her a chase to find The Joker while Doctor Leslie Thompkins tends to her injuries. In the brink of losing her sanity, Batman was about to kill the clown when she showed up to stop him from crossing the line.

Nightwing inspires Batman to let her come closer to his personal life and he eventually shared his secret identity with her by taking off his mask. She was left with Talia al Ghul to watch over as Batman goes to see her father Ra's al Ghul. Meanwhile, the League of Assassins have sent the deadly assassin Lady Shiva to retrieve Talia and encounter between the two left Selina nearly killed. The entire time when Batman was struggling through web of mysteries against a new, unknown foe, Selina has been very supportive to him.

Crisis of Conscience
When the Secret Society attacked the Justice League, Selina again teamed up with Batman to help him and she was taken to the Batcave when she sustained heavy injury. Despero broke into the cave with a few of the League members under the influence of his mind-control to capture and brainwash The Dark Knight. First she alerted the rest of the JLA members to assemble against Despero and then helped them fight against the mind-controlling by the villain upon recovering.

One Year Later
Selina stopped being Catwoman after she gave birth to a daughter named Helena Kyle and Holly Robinson took up her mantle from there. To protect her daughter and give her a good life, she started going by the alias of Irena Dubrovna. Trouble came in her way when she donned the costume again while Holly was in patrol too and thus, the villain Film Freak was able to figure out who she is and abducts her baby. After rescuing her daughter, she asked Zatanna to mind-wipe Film Freak to keep her identity secret.

Heart of Hush
Though Hush was previously shot down by Harvey Dent, he resurfaces again to terrorize Batman and partners up with Scarecrow. Selina was captured by Hush and her heart was removed from the body to lure Batman out. The Dark Knight quickly rushes after the villain while assigning Doctor Mid-Nite and Mister Terrific to her care. Tommy Elliot reveals to Bats that he has changed his face to look like Bruce Wayne through plastic surgery and he will end the lives of people Bruce loves. Hush was defeated, Selina was saved, Batman confesses his love to her and she robbed Elliot clean.

Battle for the Cowl
Selina went to Vietnam to capture Tommy Elliot and bring him back to Gotham but she returned too late to know of Batman's demise (Final Crisis). After spotting a new Batman around, she followed him to find out it was Tim Drake impersonating The Bat. Later, Dick Grayson adopted the cowl and Jason Todd came out an impostor. Catwoman and Tim Drake locate Jason and she decides to keep the streets clean as much as she can. Selina was tired fighting the villains, thus Firefly managed to escape and she was surprised to see Black Mask whom she killed before.

Gotham City Sirens
The Riddler was working for Penguin when Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy tagged along with him and they stumbled onto a wounded Catwoman. Realizing the dangers of Gotham City without a Batman, she teamed up with Harley and Ivy to form Gotham City Sirens. Ivy had a plan of extracting the real identity of Batman from Selina using home-grown drugs but she repealed these attempts even in her weakened state. As Harley goes out for shopping, she bumped into Hush, whom she believed is Bruce Wayne and he decides to use this opportunity to hurt back Catwoman but the plan was foiled by a Joker impostor.

Return of Bruce Wayne
Selina stole a map from the Falcone Crime Family and returned home to Kitrina Falcone, Carmine's long lost daughter. Kitrina informs her that the map actually has the current location of Black Mask, who has a 50 million dollar bounty on his head that Catwoman intends to collect by herself. She tied the girl up, left her in a locked room and tipped Batman to take her to police but finds out that she managed to escape. Seeing the girl escaping an inescapable knot that Bruce taught her, Selina got very impressed over her.

However, they failed to collect the bounty even after fighting Black Mask and his goons but Selina took Kitrina Falcone as her new sidekick, Catgirl. Catwoman was captured and attempts were made to learn Batman's secret identity from the depths of her mind. Her fellow Sirens helped her out of the attackers and Talia al Ghul instructs Zatanna to mind wipe her as the information is too dangerous to keep within her but Zatanna refused later. Bruce Wayne eventually returned being Batman, she joined him to establish Batman Incorporated.

Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the same creative duo who conceived the idea of Batman were also responsible in the creation of the character Catwoman, who was first introduced in the very first issue of the former character from DC Comics in 1940. The character was developed and evolved over the period of time from a villain to an anti-heroine to a somewhat heroic figure. The popularity of Catwoman earned her solo limited series apart from Batman comics and soon she even got her own monthly ongoing series as well. During The New 52 rebooted timeline after the "Flashpoint" crossover event, Catwoman is relaunched in a new monthly series that is focused on the early days of her career.

Captain America | Comics

Steve Rogers was a boy of Sarah and Joseph Rogers from Brooklyn, New York, who always wanted to join the army during the period of World War II, but failed repeatedly due to his fragile health. But he was then offered an alternative way to serve his country by scientist Abraham Erskine to become the volunteer test subject for a top secret project, Operation: Rebirth, focused to create soldiers who are physically far more superior to the others and will help win the war.

World War II
Rogers gladly accepted this golden opportunity to serve his country in the great war of the history and went through the process in which he took the "Super Soldier Serum" and the controlled bursts of "Vita Rays" to stabilize its effect on him. The process is successfully completed and his physique reached at the highest peak of a human construction. He is given the code-name "Captain America"; the first-ever super soldier of America. As the project became a success, Rogers received rigorous physical and tactical training, wearing a red, white and blue costume and his shield.

Then he was given the task of stopping the maniacal Nazi warmonger known as the Red Skull at any cost. Cap used to wield a "kite" shaped shield in the early days of his adventure and was later presented with his iconic disc-shaped shield by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Rogers was also given fake memory implants through mind-conditioning program in case he ever gets captured and he then remembered his name to be Grant Rogers as a result of the process.

Captain America | Comics

The Invaders
As Captain America, Steve Rogers was aided by his young sidekick Bucky Barnes in the battlefield. Cap also fought alongside many super-powered Allied heroes like the original Human Torch, Namor the Sub-Mariner and formed a team that they dubbed as The Invaders. During his time on war, he met the Canadian adventurer Logan whom the world would later be known as the feral mutant Wolverine. Cap was also responsible for rescuing a very young Black Widow during war, with aid from a Russian soldier named Ivan Petrovitch and Logan.

Steve encountered many villains like Arnim Zola, Baron Zemo, Doctor Doom, Dormammu, HYDRA, Mister Sinister, Ringmaster and led countless missions with his team of Howling Commandos. After an accident during his time in the World War II, his partner "Bucky" was lost while the duo was trying to stop a drone-plane full of bombs, launched by Baron Zemo. Unfortunately, the plane exploded with Bucky still on board and Cap was also presumed dead for a long time, whereas he actually fell into icy Arctic waters before entering a state of suspended animation for many decades before he was found.

The Avengers
Cap was eventually resurfaced 70 years after the incident from the Arctic Circle after Namor has found him in still-frozen form and then is offered membership in the superhero team The Avengers by Iron Man. Captain America gladly accepted this honorable membership to the band of heroes and later became the leader of the team, leading the team for a long time to the road of victory against all odds thrown at them as a born leader. In the mean time, he starts adjusting himself to the modern time with help from Iron Man and his other fellow team members.

His former enemies from the World War II era such as Red Skull, Baron Zemo and Arnim Zola also resurfaced in the modern age and he fights them all again to make sure that they never succeed in their vile agenda of establishing the rule of HYDRA as well as many new adversaries as well. As the founding members of the team decided to take a break for a while, he was joined by three new recruits; Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Rogers would meet his wartime ally Nick Fury, who has become the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and would fall in love with Sharon Carter AKA Agent 13.

Nomad
Using the Cosmic Cube, Red Skull sends Sam Wilson to attack Rogers, who'd become The Falcon and will fight alongside Cap as a long-time friend. Then the government tried to cover up the death of a high-ranking corrupt government official, which disgusted Cap as it stands against everything he believes. Steve would give up his costume to assume the new alias of Nomad. Two other will wear the red and blue uniform only to be murdered by the Red Skull, forcing Cap to return to his old persona once again.

Masters of Evil
To counter the team of the heroic Avengers, Baron Zemo would assemble a group of villains with the mission to destroy them and going by the name Masters of Evil. Under Zemo's leadership, the bad-guys took down the heroes but later, Cap led the reformed Avengers towards victory against Zemo's minions. Soon, Cap gives up his old costume and shield to assume another identity of The Captain. He successfully fought alongside The Avengers on Kree-Skrull War, Operation Galactic Storm and Korvac Saga.

Onslaught Saga
When Charles Xavier of the X-Men turned into the powerful psionic entity Onslaught, Cap led The Avengers to fight the menace and after deciding the tactics to defeat the monster, they all sacrificed themselves in the end. However, they all were saved by young Franklin Richards, who transported all the perished heroes in a pocket dimension, where they all remain for a year (Heroes Reborn). Upon returning to Earth, he and his teammates battled sorceress Morgan Le Fay, Squadron Supreme and was even framed to be impostors.

Secret War
Aiding Nick Fury in his secret plan which no one other than him knew of, Cap assembled a team of Black Widow, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Spider-Man and Wolverine to Latveria that horribly backfired. Back then, Doctor Doom was trapped in Hell and Lucia von Bardas became the Prime Minister of Latveria, whom Fury suspected of financing a handful of super-criminals in U.S. The death and destruction caused by this covert operation was too great that it created a rift between Cap and Fury.

Avengers Disassembled
Years ago, Avenger member Scarlet Witch had a personal loss and that slowly starts to affect her psych, leading her to unintentionally cause a series of catastrophic events where Jack of Hearts blew up Ant-Man, Vision crush-landed a Quinjet on Avengers Mansion before unleashing an army of Ultron. These tragic incidents made She-Hulk go on a sudden berserker rage and tear the android and then charging at her teammates. Then an armada of Kree ship appears over them and Hawkeye sacrificed himself to save the day.

New Avengers
After the disbandment of the team, both Avengers and the X-Men were greatly affected by the alternate reality of "House of M". Then the super-villain Electro caused the massive "Breakout" at maximum security prison Raft when Captain America was already there. Aided by the heroes present to restrain the villains on the loose, Cap later formed the team of New Avengers with Iron Man, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and The Sentry. Wolverine was also recruited to the team after quite a debate among the other teammates because of his lethal ways towards any situation.

Winter Soldier
While looking for the Cosmic Cube with Nick Fury and Sharon Carter, Cap discovered that his long lost sidekick and war-buddy Bucky Barnes is actually alive and currently operating as an assassin known as Winter Soldier. Following an encounter with him, Sharon was convinced that it was actually Bucky but Rogers refused to believe until Fury supported the idea with strong evidence. They two face off but Bucky had no memory of the past. So, Roger used the Cube to restore his memory but Bucky then fled.

Civil War
After the Stamford Incident, S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to enact the Superhuman Registration Act and for opposing the idea, Captain America was declared a fugitive. He build a resistant group called Secret Avengers, even letting Punisher join the team. He and Iron Man opposed over their different ideology and many other heroes paid the price. The final battle took place in Times Square, where Steve pinned down Tony but soon realized that he is no longer serving the people, Cap stood down and ordered his followers to do so.

Death of Captain America
As he was taken into the custody, Cap is assassinated by Crossbones, whom Red Skull had set up. Mind controlled by Doctor Faustus, Sharon Carter shot him several more times. Rogers were given a state funeral, while his friends and colleagues mourn the loss of his life. Wolverine and Winter Soldier even embarked their personal mission to avenge his death and breached into the S.H.I.E.L.D. to interrogate Crossbones. Steve would eventually be revived and brought back but he let Bucky to carry the mantle of Captain America.

Rebirth
While the world saw Steve Rogers die, his soul was trapped in between space and time. His mind was relieving moments from World War II and him being Captain America over and over again. He asked Vision to record a message during "Kree-Skrull War" to send it to Mister Fantastic and Henry Pym to get him out of time. Reed Richards figured that Sharon Carter can bring him back but by then his body was in possession of Red Skull. His body was recovered and he left Barnes to carry the mantle of Captain America (Captain America – Reborn).

Siege
A lot has changed during Rogers' absence and Norman Osborn has become the head of national security agency H.A.M.M.E.R. Wanting to overthrow Osborn from his current position, he get back Tony Stark on his feet and then lead New Avengers, Secret Warriors and Young Avengers to stop the madman when he, along with his Dark Avengers have launched an assault on Asgard. After the fall of Osborn, Steve Rogers became the new head of security of the United States.

Fear Itself
In search of a divine ancient hammer, Red Skull's daughter Sin became Skadi and thus, set the Asgardian god of fear; The Serpent. Sin almost killed Bucky and forced Steve to return to action as Captain America but The Serpent broke Cap's shield during their confrontation. While everything else was in ruins as The Serpent's worthies were wrecking havoc and the heroes were barely keeping up against them, Cap picks up Mjolnir; proving himself to be worthy and joined the battle to victory.

Spider-Island
When one of Spider-Man's old nemeses Jackal returned with a new sinister scheme, he kidnapped Captain America to use him as "Spider-King", a means to spread the virus that will grant people spider-powers. To stop Spider-King from doing so, Venom captured him and replaced Cap with himself to infiltrate Jackal's lair. Cap and Venom fought side by side against Spider-Queen until other heroes joined the battle.

Avengers: X-Sanction
The time-travelling mutant Cable traveled from the future to save his daughter Hope Summers from a future where The Avengers are responsible for her death. So, he kidnaps Falcon knowing Cap will follow and managed to capture him despite Rogers being a better fighter. Iron Man and Red Hulk also fall prey to him until he was forced to give up as the Techno-Organic Virus in his body starts consuming him.

Avengers Vs. X-Men
After Sam Alexander, the latest recruit of the Nova Corps visited Earth to warn The Avengers about the coming of Phoenix Force, Captain America goes to Utopia to talk to Cyclops about handing over Hope Summers, who is believed to be the new host for Phoenix. Steve was blasted with an optic blast from Scott and a major battle between Avengers and the X-Men broke in. Hope flees from Utopia and Rogers sent Wolverine on her tail. The battle came to end at one point but by then both teams have endured immense toll on their soul.

Uncanny Avengers
In the aftermath of the fallout with Cyclops and the X-Men, Steve realized that he should've done more for the mutants and to unify the humans with them, he formed Avengers Unity Division. He recruited Havok, Rogue, Scarlet Witch, Thor and Wolverine to mount an attack against the Red Skull, who tried to steal the brain of deceased Professor X to spread his control over the world. Things get out of the hand from there and other heroes join to take down the menace Red Skull became as Red Onslaught (AXIS).

Castaway in Dimension Z
Steve and Sharon go to investigate a subway car hidden in the station and when only he is allowed to hop in. As he rides along, the car disappears with him into another realm after he was drugged. Rogers wakes up discovering himself as a captive of his old enemy Arnim Zola, who welcomes him to Dimension Z. He then sees a baby inside a huge tube, whom he rescues before jumping off the facility. The boy turns out to be Zola's son, whom Steve later raised as his own and named him "Ian".
