Action Comics – Men of Steel | Comics

Lex Luthor is being hunted down by an alien assassin named Godslayer while the Man of Steel struggles to save his former enemy.

In a distant future, Earth will be engulfed in flames and toxic fumes with the fall of Justice League. Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, The Flash and Wonder Woman will fall as army of Parademons from the hellish world of Apokolips will take over Earth on behalf of their master, The Annihilator.

In present, Earth just witnessed Death of Superman on Prime Earth lately and another one from the reality of New Earth has stepped into his shoes to protect mankind and honor his legacy. At that time, former super-villain Lex Luthor has proclaimed himself as new Man of Steel of Metropolis in absence of the original one.

Despite new Superman's disapproval of his work, Luthor continues his work by fighting to protect Metropolis wearing the iconic red cape of the original one. Eventually, they both set aside their past differences when an ultimate killing machine from Krypton named Doomsday got loose on streets of Metropolis (Path of Doom).

Another Clark Kent then showed up mysteriously out of the blue and Lois Lane took place as a reporter of her counterpart from this world. Lois and Lex both came under attack at Daily Planet during one of their interview session.

Superman and Superboy were investigating on Amazon Rainforest where they found the missing Geneticron building that previously vanished from Metropolis during the recent Doomsday incident earlier. Suddenly, at a call of emergency from Lois, he immediately heads back to Metropolis with Jon.

He saw that Lex was already engaged in a fight wearing his suit with an unknown alien who calls himself L'Call, the Godslayer. Out of nowhere, Superman is suddenly punched down by L'Call's accomplice, Zade before he could even react.

Godslayer states, he is an alien assassin who kills future-criminals for generations, guided by elder Ch'Arr and now he is here for Lex Luthor, who will take Darkseid's place in a near future and his army will decimate many worlds including this one.

L'Call believes that Lex should be slayed to prevent that dystopian future from ever to happen. He came from future seeing this and he knows how great of a threat Lex would become because, he was once forced to serve the dreaded Darkseid after his family was slayed by the tyrant himself.

In spite of his dad's order, Jon came helping by pummeling a truck over Zade but Godslayer and Zade overpowered Superman and made a mess throughout Metropolis before forcibly taking Luthor with them for execution.

To save a would-be galactic mass murderer believed by two assassins from future, the Man of Tomorrow must journey to distant planet of Nideesi following Godslayer's unique form of energy trail. An intense face-off awaits between Godslayer and Superman on Nideesi to decide Luthor's uncertain fate of becoming Annihilator of Worlds.

Action Comics – Men of Steel

As part of the DC Rebirth era, Action Comics continues its run with "Men of Steel" story arc, plotted by writer Dan Jurgens (Metamorpho – Year One, Superman/Doomsday – Hunter/Prey) teamed up with the team of artists Art Thibert (Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men), Patrick Zircher (Green Arrow – New 52, Suicide Squad – New 52), Stephen Segovia (Green Lantern – New Guardians – Gods and Monsters, Poison Ivy – Cycle of Life and Death) and Tyler Kirkham (The Darkness, Tomb Raider).

Penciller Clay Mann (Dark Reign – ElektraMagneto – Not a Hero) and Gary Frank (Batman – Earth OneSuperman – Secret Origin) has provided variant covers for the issues involved. The storyline collects issues #967-972 from Action Comics monthly ongoing and features an unlikely team-up of Superman and Lex Luthor, to save the latter from an alien bounty-hunter who is hell-bent on capturing and execute him to save millions of lives in future.

Given the fact that Lex Luthor has always been evil sinnce the very beginning, L'Call, the Godslayer and elder Ch'Arr was probably right. Even if he doesn't become a re-incarnation of the dreaded Darkseid, he can still take over on Earth using his warsuit of Apokolips. The series will explore a crossover storyline "Superman Reborn" from DC Comics next which will answer questions to many mysteries.

Action Comics – Path of Doom | Comics

The original Man of Steel returns to a new version of Earth, where he faces Doomsday to save Metropolis.

With The Final Days of Superman have ended, Lex Luthor decided to take up the mantle of the fallen hero who fought beside him and declared himself as the new Superman dedicated to protect Metropolis and watch over as the new savior.

When he stopped a robbery on broad daylight in live television with an S-Shield on his chest, Clark White was watching it in his house with his wife Lois Lane and son Jon Kent at his Hamilton County home.

Thinking him as the same old evil Lex Luthor he fought all his life on another Earth, Clark dons his cape and flew to Metropolis with an urge to stop this maniac. Interrupting Lex’s speech mid-way, Superman appears hovering over and claiming himself as the real protector of the city but Lex simply accuses him of being an impostor.

As Superman was about to approach Luthor, his warsuit responded by attacking automatically in self-defense and a fight broke in on the mid-air of Metropolis because of the mutual misunderstanding.

Their fight draws city-wide attention and to cover the story, Perry White sends the best reporter of Daily Planet to aid photographer Jimmy Olsen cover the story; Clark Kent. The heist that Luthor earlier stopped was a cover-up for another theft of a top-secret package from Geneticron.

However, the thing inside it suddenly wakes up and crashes in the middle of the fight. Before Luthor could even react, Superman recognizes it as the only abomination that killed him; Doomsday!

Both Superman and Luthor charges at the beast with everything they got without wasting any time but it proved to be too strong even for the combined might of them. While Superman trades blows with the monster, Luthor tries to drive it away from the civilians.

Lois watches the whole conflict from home on TV thinking of the time when Superman faced Doomsday for the first time, with an unbeknownst Jon to the event, who believes that his father can defeat the creature.

At point on the fight, Doomsday got his hands on Luthor and tears apart his Apokalyptian armor but the timely intervention of Superman eventually saved his life. Reporter Clark Kent gets in the path of Doom risking his life to get the scoop Perry sent him for and fell in front of the beast.

Then the sudden arrival of Wonder Woman took him out of the harm's way and the warrior princess joins the battle against Doomsday! Meanwhile, a mysterious hooded figure watches all of these from an undisclosed location, who has an agenda of his own which is larger than all that’s going on.

Action Comics – Path of Doom

With the usher of the “DC Rebirth”, comic-book writer Dan Jurgens (Aquaman, The Death of Superman) has joined forces with artist Patrick Zircher (Green Arrow – New 52, Suicide Squad – New 52) and Tyler Kirkham (Deathstroke – New 52, Green Lantern Corps) to debut a new era on the new Action Comics monthly ongoing with the first story titled “Path of Doom”.

It ran through issue #957-962 of the series that features the return of Doomsday, a newly reformed Lex Luthor, Superman of New Earth, reporter Clark Kent who is not the Man of Steel and a certain Amazonian princess of Prime Earth.

The Last Stand!

The end-result of the Convergence crossover event and Darkseid War crossover arc from The New 52 timeline was also pointed out with the presence of Pre-Flashpoint Superman on Prime Earth and a reformed Lex Luthor in a warsuit powered by a mother box to become the new Superman of this world.

Considering writer Dan Jurgens was the original writer of "The Death of Superman" storyline, he has depicted a slightly alternate take of that classic event of DC Comics. Issues that were left unresolved are concluded in the "Welcome to the Planet" and "Men of Steel" story-arc of the series up next.

As Voltaic repeatedly tries to get on the nerves of Soldier, he succeeds and eventually receives a fatal beating from him. Waller talks to a chair strapped Deadshot about how he really died twice during his missions and how they revived him every time. A leggy blonde enters King Shark’s room to draw his attention towards her and then is immediately chewed in half when insulting him and is revealed to be an android.

The Clown Prince of Crime also makes an appearance at Harley’s cell reprising the lines from their interviews only to get shot in the head by Unknown Soldier, who in turn gets stabbed by Quinn in the gut. A riot breaks in all of a sudden, which prompts Harley and Deadshot to make a break from the Penitentiary but she ends up striking a new deal with Waller’s guest about their team.

As he pretty much enjoyed his time in Belle Reve Penitentiary, he accepts the offer to join Task Force X as an adviser. Meanwhile, an attempt to bring Voltaic back to life with Samsara Serum fails and uncovers new deadly aspects of the serum. The entire Squad then heads to Las Vegas looking for an anarcho-terrorist organization run by The Mother and this time Cheetah joins the team.
