New Avengers – Search for the Sorcerer Supreme | Comics

Although Doctor Strange is back, a search for his new successor begins with The Hood seeking his powers.

Now that Tony Stark is not Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore, New Avengers are on the run because Norman Osborn is in charge of everything. Aside from running a new task force H.A.M.M.E.R., he has assembled his own version of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" with their twisted and villainous counterparts as Dark Avengers.

Some heroes went underground and many like Clint Barton AKA Ronin became vocal about their opinion on Osborn in public. When his team tries to choose a leader, Barton is elected and he picks Ms. Marvel as his second-in-command. They ask for Spider-Man to share his real identity with them and he reluctantly does so after all.

Turns out, Jessica Jones was a classmate of Peter from high school and had a crush on him, which irks her husband Luke Cage a little. Before they proceed to plan ahead to take Osborn down, Doctor Strange arrives there to seek help. He barely survived an encounter with The Hood, who is currently after his Eye of Agamotto.

It appears that Stephen Strange is no longer a Sorcerer Supreme of Earth dimension as he used dark arts to save his friends earlier. He has been looking for a new contender for his former title ever since and met Young Avengers member Wiccan in New Jersey but their conversation is interrupted midway when he sees Parker Robbins outside.

Strange told Billy Kaplan to run and attempts to face Hood alone but not only did he fail to reason with Robbins, he soon realized that his enemy has grown more powerful than he is now. Instead of running, Wiccan came out helping with his powers, allowing them both to escape from there and he came here to gather strength.

New Avengers insists on helping Strange as they were after Robbins, who has ties to Osborn. Meanwhile, Hood goes to Dormammu seeking help to ease his pain and meets Madame Masque. Not knowing what he's been up to, she suggests that they go look for Doctor Strange to get help and removes her mask before kissing him.

They all head to New Orleans trying to find the new rightful owner for Eye of Agamotto in a Quinjet that Carol "borrrowed" when she left Mighty Avengers. What Strange is mostly concerned about is that even people like Doctor Doom or Hood could be a candidate for being next Sorcerer Supreme and that would be disastrous.

On their way, the Eye suddenly activates by itself and starts display all of its possible holders before getting disappeared, most likely to its new owner. They are hit by a missile by Madame Masque, prompting Spidey and Wolverine to go after her. Logan ran into heavy fire and Spider-Woman engaged her until Captain America took her out.

In his apartment, Daimon Hellstrom was arguing with his ex-wife Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat over phone. The Hood comes at him guns blazing thinking he has what he is looking for but was unable to even land a scratch on him. They both get a glimpse of the Eye before it gets vanished again and Hood is cast outside from his house.

Their fight gets ugly pretty quickly and caught attention of The Avengers, who came in offering aid to Hellstrom. As Cage and Doc Strange try their best to contain the fiery fury of an unhinged Parker Robbins, who has taken a larger demonic form, Jericho Drumm AKA Brother Voodoo shows up wearing the Eye of Agamotto to help.

Continuing his run on eleventh New Avengers storyline "Search for the Sorcerer Supreme", writer Brian Michael Bendis (House of M, Secret War) returns once again to rally up the heroes to face a "Dark Reign" with a revised team lineup and status quo for Marvel Comics in 2009 that would spread across various other mini-series.

Bendis was joined by artists Antonio Fabela, Justin Ponsor, Billy Tan (Thor – Latverian Prometheus, Uncanny X-Men – End of Greys), Chris Bachalo (Dark Reign – The Sinister Spider-Man, X-Men – Age of Apocalypse) and Matt Banning in telling his story within issues #51-54 from fist volume of monthly ongoing comic-book series.

Even though Cage has been acting as a leader for some time, he steps down and Bucky Barnes simply didn't have old-school Avengers experience. In a not so surprising manner, Clint Barton gets elected as current leader of New Avengers.

The Hood, one of Osborn's allies and a herald of Dormammu becomes a major pain for heroes to deal with. Although he went after Strange to steal his Eye of Agamotto by force, Parker eventually ended up being badly burnt in hospital. A new Sorcerer Supreme is chosen and more bad news is heading for them in next story "Powerloss".

New Avengers – The Trust | Comics

New Avengers team deals with paranoia of a possible Secret Invasion and deals with a crime boss known as The Hood.

During "Civil War" of superheroes, The Avengers were no longer united but New Avengers have reassembled with Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and Wolverine. They are joined by Doctor Strange, Iron Fist and a recently resurfaced Clint Barton for a mission to rescue Maya Lopez AKA Echo, from Japanese underworld and The Hand.

Although Clint was formerly known as Hawkeye, he adopted the new identity of Ronin and accompanied his friends to Japan where they confronted Elektra. She was killed in battle with Maya and shockingly revealed to be a shape-shifting alien Skrull. This shocked every single one of them and they head back to U.S. immediately afterwards.

Arguing what to do now, Logan points out that anyone of them could be an imposter and therefore, no one will trust anyone from now on but Jessica Drew suggests that they take the corpse to Tony Stark, because he will try to kill them if he is a Skrull. Suddenly, they lost power and was forced to crash land before reaching New York.

Spider-Woman takes the body from crash site and zaps Wolverine hard when he tried to stop her. This action causes Clint and Danny to reach conclusion that she is a Skrull but Logan debunks that idea saying, she took it to show Stark. Luke asks Spidey whether or not he is a Skrull, which almost started a tussle between them.

Rest of heroes to argue over whom to trust as they return to Sanctum Sanctorum and some of them goes out to seek some bad guys to punch. Wolverine goes to get a drink in a bar where he overhears Parker Robbins AKA The Hood talking about invading Avengers Tower with a Deathlok and breaks in only get his butt handed to him.

Next day, everyone reassembled at Sanctum and Stephen Strange offers to cast a spell on them that will reveal a projection of their true nature. None of them turn out to be a Skrull and then Logan came in, projecting an image of a ronin. He told them about what Hood is planning to do soon and they all decide to help other Avengers.

Despite bearing the risk of being arrested, they all go to Avengers Tower and see Iron Man leading his Mighty Avengers to street where a symbiote outbreak was taking over the populace of New York. All of New Avengers have immediately turned into various forms of Venom-like monsters except Luke Cage and joined the mayhem.

When Tony turned everyone back to normal, Luke and his friends helped all affected citizens nearby to their feet before leaving. Logan notices Jessica Drew among Tony's team and to learn what she told his new team, he breaks in to have a word with her and she claims that she only came here to warn about a possible Skrull Invasion.

The Hood recruits deranged killer Jigsaw in his gang of criminals after ambushing and humiliating Tigra on his behalf to take revenge for an early encounter. Instead of launching Deathlok on Avengers, he uses it to rob a large bank alongside Wrecking Crew while all major heroes were busy dealing with symbiote invasion earlier.

Later, New Avengers came to visit the bank they robbed to track them down and Wolverine lead everyone to Hood's hideout. However, seeing Parker Robbins with Wrecker and his pals made them worried that they may need back up. To which, Strange complies and they breaks in for a confrontation with a band of other superheroes.

Michael Straczynski (Civil War – Spider-Man, The Other – Evolve or Die) and editor-in-chief cum artist Joe Quesada (Daredevil – Guardian Devil, Daredevil – Father) brings you the four part storyline "One More Day", which will change history of the web-slinger forever.

Marvel Comics published this storyline back in 2007 in four issues that span over three monthly ongoing series; Amazing Spider-Man, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Sensational Spider-Man, where Quesada served as a cover artist as well.

Straczynski's attempt to bring a major paranormal character as Mephisto into a Spider-Man story for creating a greater impact was a move they all planned long before and he decided to execute it before he finished his run on the series. Although many have initially protested against the idea but in a long-run, it created a burden for the hero to carry around.

In the aftermath of this story, the series sees a legendary run in "Brand New Day", which started a new status quo for everyone's favorite wall-crawler and his friends. Mary Jane Watson also stays around without her and Peter hooking up again. Plus, new characters like Carlie Cooper, Daily Bugle's new owner Dexter Bennett and Menace are introduced.

New Avengers – Illuminati | Comics

Though members of Illuminati were united to take on greatest threats, they are torn apart by idea of a "Secret Invasion".

In the aftermath of Kree-Skrull War, King T'Challa AKA Black Panther has invited Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Namor and Professor X to Wakanda. Tony Stark believes they are partially responsible for what happened a week earlier as they all had some knowledge of their enemy but had no formation to stop them.

To his proposal for all groups of heroes to unite for a cause, Namor points out that there will be issue regarding leadership and not everyone will want to join them. Except for Reed Richards, both Strange and Xavier completely disagrees to this idea. However, none could debunk the idea of an oncoming invasion from enemy in future.

When time came to vote for keeping it all between them and continue working in secret but only T'Challa backs out, thus Illuminati is formed. Right after forming, these five travels to Skrull Throneworld and warn Emperor Dorrek VII to stay away from Earth or face consequences but he simply chooses to ignore and threatens their life.

In a show of force, Black Bolt destroyed their ship using his quasi-sonic scream and attempted to return home but got captured instead. After being examined and tortured for a while, Tony finally managed to lead them all to escape back home knowing there will be more attack but not before Skrulls collected important data on them.

They eventually took care of Infinity Gems by becoming their protectors, convinced Beyonder to self exile and groomed a Kree warrior to be Marvel Boy. Years later, when Hulk decimated Las Vegas in a rampage, Tony proposes his group that they throw him in space since there was no cure known to them for him but Namor rebelled angrily.

Without Xavier, Illuminati came together once again after House of M was over and Tony revealed to them about how U.S. government is planning for a Superhuman Registration Act. Hearing how things can lead to a superhero "Civil War", only Reed came to his support with Black Bolt, Strange and Namor walked out disagreeing.

New Avengers was split and Tony formed a government sponsored Mighty Avengers after asserting position as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. His former teammate Spider-Woman showed up with a corpse of a Skrull that was posing as Elektra, implying that ranks of superhero groups have been infiltrated with sleeper agents for invasion.

He then took the dead body to show to his fellow Illuminati members, believing it has something to do with their visit to Skrull home-world from many years ago. What is even more baffling to them is that it was able to remain undetected from Wolverine's mutant abilities, Spider-Man's senses and Doctor Strange's magic for too long.

Reed proposes to run an autopsy and dissect the corpse into molecular level to determine how to detect them. Both Charles Xavier and Prince Namor suggest that it could all be a solo operation even that they just found. Tony points out how everything has been upside down for past few years as they were being manipulated from within.

As they were arguing about what to do now, Blackagar Boltagon is revealed itself to be a Super-Skrull hiding among them all along. Immediately after revealing, it attacks them all and claims that Earth has already been taken over. Iron Man and his allies realize that this shape-shifting alien imposter is too-powerful for them to take down.
